Shot in the dark here but...

I recently learned a French toast (the drinking kind, not the eating kind), whose English translation was something like: "If you do something bad, do it well, because a bad thing done well is not such a bad thing after all."

Does anyone know what I'm speaking about?

Is this it:

Si tu fais le mal, fait le bien car le mal mal fait fait bien moins de mal que le bien mal fait.

Literally: If you do evil, do it right for evil badly done hurts less than good badly done.

A linguist's translation: if you do something bad, do it well because the bad badly done is less bad than the good done badly.
