While searching through OTH for a little bit, I remembered a hypothetical question that my brother asked me a while ago (I hope I can word it exactly the way he did):
If you had created the perfect human, and I mean the perfect human, one who excels greatly at every sport, strength, speed, intelligence, and is immune to every virus there is, and there ever will be, etc. And you were able to create more of these perfect humans (of course they can mate and make more perfect humans etc). Now would you kill off the whole human population (the imperfect population) to make way for the perfect human population?
If it seems somewhat confusing (which i dont think it does), then I probably did word it right.
So, would you?

Nope...Cause I'm not gonna die for those fucks. I don't care how "perfect" they are. A bullet can take down anyone, no matter how large that person is
I just think we should merge machinery and man. Have plastic tubes to replace arteries so they wont get weak and break, replace the heart with an automatic heart, replace a lot of bone with light metal. When you die, usually the first thing to go is your heart, and take supplements to deter brain deterioration.

that be the singularity my friend, when man and machine merge. It will be awesome

Nature is already perfect
people need to die and suck at things for natural hierarchies to form
Imagine how bad overpopulation would be if people were immune to disease

Agreed. Also what about morality in a perfect human being? That's the thing that needs to be addressed mostly and is the thing that is always going to be debatable between two people. A perfect specimen of a human being is nothing without the moral perfection.

Also.
Perfect Humans means a perfect society. If our society was perfect then how would we progress?
Most great inventions are created due to priority. An epidemic occurs or a crisis happens... and all great minds unite to solve it.
The by product of that solution can be something that progresses us humans.
A good example of this is the Hydrogen bomb development during World War II. Great minds banded together to create this and as a by product we discovered a new way to create energy.

Well, they would need perfect insitutions first, but I'm assuming perfectly intelligent and moral human beings would be capable of this.
Why would THEY want to progress? Maybe progress isn't a value of the perfect human being. Not to mention, they've already reached perfection...
note: I'm assuming all perfect human beings have the same exact values and ideals, otherwise they would create another dysfunctional society. It's just hard to imagine perfectly altruistic humans that would not look to their own interests to dominate others...but I guess it is why they're perfect and so "unhuman".

Why would you want to create a perfect human in the first place?

Why not? It's better than having dysfunctional, hateful, unintelligent, belligerent ones.
natural selection, the would die eventually or the world would muddle down like race mixing and the people would become either very great sportsman, or be better than todays but not as amazing as the perfects. if you can understand that.

If you created the perfect human you would have to compete with the perfect human. And they'd get all the good jobs and be right all the time and get better grades and in general just piss everyone off by constantly oneuping them.
It's better to have a world full of stupid dysfunctional people than to be the stupid dysfunctional people in a world full of people who are better than you.
So...they didn't make you read Frankenstein in high-school did they?
Paradise Lost?
Well anyway. Perfection of intelligence, thats all well and fine, we have geniuses now, we have unbelievable athletes now, mix those two together and thats pretty cool.
But our society isn't really built for that, comparable to the proposed superman its in quite a state of decay, morally what of the creature? Is it going to be like that one episode of Star Trek where all the clones are all ego-crazy and try to take over the world? Is it going to be like Frankenstein's monster? Will the creature be morally and virtuously perfect? If so by what standard? I don't know.
I refer you to Descartes, http://tinyurl.com/55b6be , chapter 4 is a more pertinent place to start perhaps.
It's better to have a world full of stupid dysfunctional people than to be the stupid dysfunctional people in a world full of people who are better than you.
From a selfish perspective, sure!
OP: No, because in my personal system of metaphysics, I value life above everything else. Don't ask me why though. ;)

You do realise how incredibly intricate and complex the human body is yeah? The technology require to even begin to imitate, let alone improve on most parts of the human body is so fuckin' far away, it's not worth thinking about.
Artificial limbs have come a hell of a long way, hearing aids have come a hell of a long way but these aren't so much as integrated parts of the body, they are add on's for missing or broken parts.

a race of 'perfect humans' would lack genetic diversity to cope with any epidemic. i know you used toe phrase "immune to every disease/virus, but disease causing organisms mutate and evolve a lot faster than we do.
if you were to say something like "a perfect human would always be immune to everything", then the thing you are describing wouldnt be human.
i dont know.

Basically you're saying not to create the perfect human because you fear them.
I'd create the perfect human without an ego, and put them at service to imperfect humanity. Have them help the imperfect achieve perfection as much as possible.

I know where you are coming from,
BUT
If everyones that smart, we can make scientific advances like... 5x faster then the normal human race. We would have people trying to help one another (Ex: Oil companies by perfect humans would fund people find an alternative to oil, not the other way around like today).
On top of that, every mind would be doing something. We'd be able to make machines to do the menial tasks, while every other mind on the planet goes into making mankind better.
Space would not be a new frontier anymore. We could probably populate space and begin the age of betterment.
-----------
To the people saying "Holocaust II" or stuff like that, perfect humans would take care of the imperfect (because, they are perfect after all). Eventually slowly the imperfect race will dwindle under the new circumstances... nonetheless the perfect humans would not kill any of them. Old age would come and slowly wipe the imperfect out. This means everyone still lives normal lives! Just over time, as trends show... the sperm count in imperfect people would decrease as it is already; etc etc, until the last old woman/man dies.
Then awaits the "master" race which I don't like using that term cause of Mr Adolf's abuse of it-- but its true.
Eventually the perfect humans would control the universe, come close to it, or die when the universe finally has all the lights go out for eternity.

hah, i dreamt about this the other day.. it was more like 'god' was telling me i had a choice, to eliminate those dumbass waste of space - oxygen depriving mother fuckers, breathing up all our air type individuals, and just leave the people like 'me' and 'you' assuming we're on the level where can we discuss several subjects at a time, fluently, and not fuck it up.. and still laugh at the appropriate parts, but be on the same type level and not being laughing when it's a more serious implication or matter at hand, being which... something like the subject we're presently discussing...
all in all, i said no, because of one simple reason: a serious drop in population FUCKS the ENTIRE world because of the industrious individuals of the more eastern world than my eastern seaboard of america's world.... (presently, its the only world i've ever known.. shortly though, my horizons will have been greatly broadened..) all in all though, i want to say no i don't think i would do that.. only because then there would be no competition and shit and our capitalist society with all of our pretty little gadgets and advancements would cease to exist as we would all transfer our lifestyles to that of a marxist communistic common ideology... type shit.. and all this scatter brained blaspheming is a result of a little too much sobriety at the moment.. so ummm. yes. xD

I always thought that we need a lower caste of society for it to function.

Then lazy people need to be wiped out too.
I suggest you watch the Death Note serie's. Its about a guy that is given the oppurtunity to shape the world to his image and the struggle within about what to do. Its a cartoon but its suitable for an adult audience.

Flawed people are the most interesting, a "perfect" society would be lacking in poets, authors, sex, drug, rock and roll and any type of passion or suffering.

Also, lazy is an adjective to millionaires (notice the lack of a comma :P)

It is diversity that helps a species survive.
Any reproduction when their is no death= Overpopulation.
These "perfect" should naturally beat out the "normal" humans... right?
Adding an unknown to the large, chaotic system that is the ecosystem can't hurt... can it?

Even if something like this was to happen (legal or otherwise) the consequences wouldn't be that drastic. Most people here would probably be dead before they felt an effect of having these guys around.
I look forward to the day when someone 'makes' a human that's a big tougher than the current type, chances are some of the advances that help these 'perfect ones' can be adapted to regular people as well.

The human mind CANNOT ever be perfect.
In order to make it ideally perfect (also consider every society's ideals and values differ,) the mind would have to be far too altered to do so. With this occurring, it could radically change the human being to the point that it could not in any way related to us mentally.
Only conquerers want perfection in people.

Hypothetical. What if...?
It is irrelevant that it may not be possible. Simply...if we had these 'perfect' human beings, would you want them to replace the current strand of human beings?

I kinda indirectly answered that. If these supposedly perfects were to replace humans, they're world would be so completely different that its not even comparable.

1) The average human generation introduces 3 new random mutations. So your perfect humans, whatever you decide that means, won't stay that way for long.
2) Nothing is perfect: very smart people make mistakes, athletes screw up. Even in your perfect humans, you will have people who have trained themselves for different occupations, so society will not be very different.
3) Unless you define "perfect" as not spending any effort on creative endeavors, art will still exist. Because the human race doesn't create art because of adversity; it creates it to indicate to potential mates that it is not effected by adversity (it's a courtship display). Besides, there are two types of art:
a) "Folk" art - ie, well-made objects. This is the art of a well-made sword/gun/desk/car... which indicates an abundance of skill and 'wealth'.
b) "high" art - this is art designed for displays of power and sophistication... which will always be desirable features.
4) [Wo]men probably won't appear to be any hotter. Your standards will just be higher.
5) The transition period, between current society and uber-society, might be a bit messy.

If one was even able to make this happen, they would be.. God.
What defines perfection? Physicality? Anyone today is capable of reaching the perfect body in order to be physically fit enough to play any sport. The rate of brain absorption? If they were able to absorb anything and everything, what would they absorb except the pure basics of survival?
The reason humanity is what it is today is because of all of the imperfections. The most profound accomplishments usually come from freaks of nature. Mad crazy scientists, manic depressive music composers, skitzo theorists, they all make up the history of where we are today. Without mistakes, we would be mindless bodies. We would just be animals. Simply existent. Wake up, work, swim, love, go to bed. Nothing. No chance for any unrealistic ideas. No imagination. No music.
If there were any realms of existence in our place before we came around, they weren't as exciting as we are today. There are a bunch of infected nobody's running around, I know. If there was a chance to filter out those who are merely taking up space, believe me, I would. But, perfection is a terrible desire. Its a trick. Once you think you are there, you're still unfulfilled. As individuals, let not our desires be perfection, but our own personal missions in life.
To change the entirety of humanity to that minimalistic existence would be saying goodbye to the freedom of consciousness.

perfect is that which exists, but can not be observed
