I'm really considering it but it kind of seems not quite right to me. I know if I could give myself totally to it then I could do great but I'm not sure if I could do that. Little hippie voice in my ear or something. NZ army btw.

No one can "convince" you to enlist. That's a decision you alone can make.

Don't enlist in the Army. The last thing any military on the planet needs is more fools that don't belong there. If you have to seriously think about the New Zealand military in regards to you being anti-war you shouldn't enlist. The military needs people that understand the necessity of war and are fully willing to take lives in war if necessary. You aren't even joining a military likely to see combat, and you are already showing the signs of someone who doesn't belong.

Go home kid, take the shortcut. You're liable to bruise your ovaries in boot camp anyways.

Should a thread asking to be recruited not be locked?

Read, good sir:

4.) Active recruiting will not be tolerated. This involves one person or party actively encouraging another person or party to enlist or commission into a service with the targeted party having little or no clear prior considerations of the offering service. Offering advice or information is one thing; advertising is another thing entirely.

It is quite obvious that the OP has quite a bit of prior consideration towards the New Zealand Army. If a thread were started promoting OTHERS to join the NZ Army, that's a whole 'nother story.

As for the OP, if you're having doubts about joining, then don't join. It's really that simple. You should be 100% sure that you wish to go on to this sort of lifestyle before doing so. Being half-sure in the beginning means you'll regret it later, and once that time comes it'll probably be too late.

I suggest reading as much as you can about the New Zealand Army, as well as the other branches of NZ (I believe NZ has an Air Force), and if your country has National Guard or Reserve equivalents and weigh out those.

Really, it's up to you. Be sure to be well aware of the sacrifices and consequences before you get your head too high in the clouds with the benefits.

The military needs people that understand the necessity of war and are fully willing to take lives in war if necessary.

If I joined I would be committed totally to it, this is just thinking about it when it's a decent way into the future.

Thanks for the replys

Just remember, with a decision like this, you have to be committed, motivated, and very willing to lose just about everything you know and love, including your life, if it ever comes to that.

PROS:
You'll get to travel.
They pay you to study.
You'll learn leadership skills.
It builds character.

CONS:
You'll get to travel to places like Baghdad.
You'll pay for your study with your life.
Leadership skills are limited if you're simply going to follow orders.
You'll loose all that character when you cause the death of some other poor, misguided, uneducated bloke...

I absolutely love this post, Axiom. I really do. It just goes to show that some people, even outside of the notorious realms of SG, HB, and B&M, don't bother to read posts before responding. It does cast doubt on your responses in other threads, given you didn't even read a two line original post before feeling you had the right to chip in on this one.

Byss the Belligerent is right I'm afraid, Axiom. New Zealand only gets involved in UN-sanctioned wars, and as such has nothing to do with the mess in Iraq.

So NZ is sending troops to Iraq now?

So NZ is sending troops to Iraq now?

No, they were against the war from the start. The only deployments NZ are doing are to East Timor.

Incorrect. The New Zealand army has sent troops to Iraq...to help rebuild it, not in a combat role.

At present there is only one NZDF officer there, however.

Which is precisely the mess I'm talking about when I say the words "UN sanctioned", which Iraq certainly isn't.

I probably should have quoted Byss, who implied New Zealand military personnel don't go to Iraq.

(I believe NZ has an Air Force)

I thought they didn't because they couldn't afford it.

If I flew over there in a Cessna I'd have achieved air superiority.

There is an airforce, but it has no air combat capability.
