I live in Australia, I want to buy one of those Bose clock radio/CD player things:

http://bose.com.au/site/index.aspx?path=products&CTRL=PG&pfid=1&pgid=2

As you can see, its AUD $999.

They also sell these in the USA:

http://www.bose.com/controller?event=VIEW_STATIC_PAGE_EVENT&url=/home_entertainment/music_systems/wave/wrcd/index.jsp

As you can see, its USD $499.

Currently, USD $499 = AUD $523.

So naturally, I'm tempted to import one.

I seem to remember something about US radio frequencies being stepped differently to everyone elses, so if I imported one, would the radio work?

I would also need a transformer, but I figure its probably not a great expense because presumably a CD player doesn't draw that much.

What do you guys think?

You're going to import a radio to save $24?

from AUD $999 to AUD $523 is a lot more than $24 he's saving.

just depends how much shipping would be as well.

Clearly shipping isn't going to be $450.

Anyone with a digital tuner over there feel like testing the following:

Does the FM step up by .5 blocks there like it does here?

Can you pick up 774 on the AM band? How about 1116?

I'm no radio buff, but on my car radio and my radio, the am band goes in blocks of ten, like this 1100 AM, 1100 AM, etc. I'm not sure if other radio's go into single digits like yours, although I'm sure you could probably modify the radio to work in your country.

In all honesty, I don't think it will work because the US does not tune odd numbers.

You will probably need to buy the Aussie one.

sorry man.
