I'm going to be a senior next year and i just realized that I don't know shit about how to get into college. Not only that, i don't know how to apply for loans, scholarships, grants, financial aid or any of that stuff. If you guys who have already gone through this throw me some pointers, I would be very appreciative.

What do you want to study? Where do you want to go to school?
Sign up for Financial Aid here: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ The site will answer your questions about that.
Very few scholarships out there, prepare to be disappointed on that front.
You got a counselor at your high school? Chat'em up about this.

Have you checked to make sure you have the grades and SAT scores to get into Texas State?
Google is your friend. :D Check out the college webpages, and browse around the prospective student section. All the information about deadlines, requirements, interviews, test scores, and such should be there, and probably the application as well.
Another thing: pick up the phone and speak to the admissions personnel. They'll answer any questions, and give you pointers to scholarships for which you might be eligible. Finally, do the obvious! Call the financial aid department and talk to them...they'll tell you where to find forms to apply for school granted aid.
Definitely file with fafsa.
You might also want to check out www.fastweb.com. It's a long shot, but if you're willing to write a few essays, there's a slight chance you might get a scholarship or two. :)
Additionally, they have several pages dedicated to advice on how to apply to a college/university.

did you fucking take the ACT or SAT? better get off your ass and sign up for the next available day immediately if not. most people take them at the end of their junior year. and do you know if texas state is one of the few cockhungry schools that will only accept one or the other? don't take the wrong one, haha.
then i'd just check the school's website to see how to apply there and when the deadline is. don't fucking wait until the last minute, that decreases your chances of getting in as well as of receiving financial aid/scholarships. there are FUCK ALL scholarships out there so like someone else said, don't expect much. as for FAFSA and aid from the government, you basically have to be so dirt poor or a minority to get any of that. the only people i knew from high school who got that shit were black or like this one white girl i know, her lazy mom didn't work AT ALL, and they lived in section 8 housing and survived off of child support. she just barely got enough to not have to take out any private loans, but still has government loans.

if you're going to community college, don't worry about it. you're in man. they take everyone. then once you're there, just try to get near straight A's because the college you'll transfer to to finish the four year degree will only be looking at your community college grades. they won't give a shit about high school.

FUCK YOU. My sat score was 1440 out of 2400.
I was the first grade of students that had to take the suckass longer version of the SAT, 2400 version. FUCKING HATED IT! but I passed!? 1440/2400 = 60% exactly. LOL
History and Political Science? No offence but that is the most boring major I have heard of. IMO! I dont even know what kind of a job you can get with that, do you? well you better.
It's time to think way ahead my friend, think about what job you want, research that job like your actually looking for it, find its requirements and then determine your major.
So decide what kind of a job you want, atleast a good rough guess, decide where most of those jobs are, decide if you'd wanna move there, spend the rest of your miserable life there, decide if you can get some nice ass there, whatever the fuck ever, just keep thinking about shit.
and fuck your Sat score bitch, you know you cheated. lol.
Oh yea,
make sure ALL your community college courses transfer to whatever college your transfering into. Any classes that don't transfer are a complete waste, you'd have to take extra classes in the university your transfering to, which takes extra time, extra money, extra time to get stds. Never be lazy to ask people and find out if all the classes transfer.
Community college might not give you grants... because its a bitch like that, but the university you transfer into probably will automatically i'd assume, my grants just showed up on my university profile.

Employers barely even look at degrees anymore; there are plenty of poli sci majors doing systems analysis, for example. OP, if you're interested, then fucking go for it!

CCs won't give you grants; the odds are so much against you that it's useless even filling out the forms. The problem with applying to CC and then to college is that you lose many scholarships that you may have otherwise received had you applied as a freshman. My college, for example, states on its scholarship page:
"Students applying for four-year renewable, leadership and/or diversity scholarships must do so during the senior year of high school by February 1. Consideration will not be given in subsequent years, even if the student is an entering freshman."
So look at your college's policy and decide based on that. There are transfer scholarships that you can receive, but those are far more scarce, the freshman scholarships are where the $$$'s at.
