Really, we could argue this for a long time but ultimately I do value all life, just when it comes down to it I'll choose a human to save because I can actually relate in some way to it. This was just situational. If it came down to it I'd attempt build the modern version of Noah's Ark that saves as much as I can. I'd also put bad-ass rockets and lasers on it and we would all go on a cosmic journey.

My dog is still with me, but I know I'd be an emotional wreck once he passes. Heck the Futurama episode 'Jurassic Bark' where Fry revisits the memories of his dog, makes me sad.

It depends which dog it is. If it was one of my younger dogs, I'd pick them over the stranger in a heartbeat. If it was my 13 year old dog, I'd have to think about it. I love her, but she's lived a long and hopefully happy life, and I don't want to see her waste away as she gets older, so I might pick a stranger over her depending on what I knew about the person.
