I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a digital scale. It only needs to be accurate to the tenth of a gram. I've been using these "pocket scales" for the past two years, and, although accurate, I have to replace them every few months. I figured it would be better to just invest in a decent one. Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.

For chemistry purposes you want a .01 scale not a 0.1. A tenth of a gram isn't enough when your weighing tiny amounts of chemicals.

I dont know why you bothered posting that pointless reply. The OP's asking for advise on buying a scale. Since this is LT and not BLTC I assume he's using it for general chemistry purposes so I advise him to get a milligram scale because you never know when you need to weigh something lighter than 1/10 gram.

Decent scales are only about $50 but they get you with the batteries. Last scale I had I had to go to radioshack everytime I wanted to replace the batteries and cost me $10 every time.

Thanks for the answer. I will be weighing out "chemicals" to anyone interested. I actually don't smoke weed; I just said I'll only need it to be accurate to a tenth of a gram because I know to be accurate to the hundredth would be much more expensive. It's easier for me to take a small financial loss due to a reaction not completing as thoroughly as it should than spending $100 USD+ on a scale. I never do anything serious.

My advice is to get a scale with a guarantee (mine came with 2 years) which isn't too expensive. Definitely go for the 0.01g range and you will probably want one with at least a maximum load of 100 or 250g.

I have a set of these and they have been nothing but a pleasure to use. They are very accurate, weigh in 0.01g, have 4 different weigh modes, a tare setting and weigh up to 50g. Also, the front pops out when you push it and goes back in when pushed in and the weighing tray is also a nice protective cover.

Yeah nothing compares to having a digital scale. I see people with those old fashioned balances saying they're good enough but theres no comparison.

0.01 g max wieght 1kg
0.001 g max weight 500g

I rarely use the second scale but it was on sale for 110 Euros and it looks great and good for RC :)

Also, does anyone have a link to that writeup of how to make an electric ug scale? I don't need it but it might be good to share. I've been thinking about it and how hard it would be to make it automated. In the instructions you need to set the current (or voltage, I'm no good with electricity) so it would make a needle stay at 0. First you would calibrate it by getting the current for at least 3 known weights then plot a chart and find where what you are weighing is on it. I hope that made sense...:(

I've got no idea what you mean... are you saying that ug scale would be hard to make? It looked kind of hard, but possible even for someone who doesn't know much about electronics. It would be a hell of a lot cheaper, even including the time it takes to make it.

Fuzion are a good make, I have scales of theirs which only weigh to 0.1g, good scales, I would have said they were good value for money at £15, but after UK_TOM posted a link to some much better ones for a tenner, go for them.
