There is a truth about "murder" that you probably have never heard. It is one of the biggest cover-ups of civilized government that has ever existed, and is used to keep the masses in fear. The truth is, there is no murder. Or at least, the only murder is controlled by the various governments around the world who are in the know.
At a certain stage in human development, shortly after widespread use of symbols, those in power realized the power of creating and manipulating these symbols. They also recognized that except for on a very rare basis, people were not like the animals in one respect. Now that language had allowed the social systems to be held together on a much deeper level than ever before (and we're talking about exponentially here), people barely ever killed each other anymore.
This was a time when those in power were seeking more long term control and more power (although the same could be said today). They began to discuss ways of gaining this control, and they realized that having people think a state-owned enforcement system was necessary for the safety of the citizens would allow this, but how would they install this enforcement system? The people would never agree, since they already felt safe within their social systems. The only real crimes that were perpetrated were the stealing of food by poor people who could not eat, and people understood their motivations and felt compassion towards them.
So the idea of murder came up, and the peoples in power began to kill to start the fear wheel rolling. It was successful beyond even their wildest dreams: since people now saw that others were doing it, even at the outward dismissal of society, they began doing it too. Not all of course, not even a majority, but enough to help out the people in power and squeeze a little more fear than before. With that, the people began to demand protection from their government, and the government agreed.
Today, the ratio of murders perpetrated by governments around the world to murders performed by actual citizens is about 1:1.
