I know it's just another day to our non-usanian members, but this is the first 4th of July I can remember where we didn't have some manner of discussion related to it.

Since the horse is already out of the barn, what did you pyros do for the 4th, if anything? I know some of you guys had to blow something up.

My celebration was pretty much crap. Almost nobody who was going to show up to the cookout showed up because of last minute bullshit. Meanwhile, I learned the irritating way that the old soda bottle salute doesn't work with my flash powder: the heat vaporizes the bottom of the bottle, turning it into a bright, short lived rocket. I just resigned to setting off a bunch of polumnas while watching everyone else who actually had cash to blow on pyrotechnics... Even if storebought ones.

Did a gig with 5 other guys. $15k of 1.3g consisting of 700+ 2.5" and 3" shells and like 30 or so big cakes. No idea when I get my check or how big it will be...

Got really badly burned...

... sunburned...

The new fireworks day (week) of the year for myself is at the PGI convention next month.

I had a lil bonfire at my house. Grilled a bunch of burgers and dogs, along with some brews. I spent a little over $400 on retail fireworks this year. The place I buy my stuff carries a bunch of 1.3g items rewrapped to look like consumer product. Had a bunch of aerial salutes and such.

Random question, after lighting some "quarter sticks" a friend bought off the black market, I suddenly became re-interested in homemade pyro. It's been awhile, and it seems all my sources have either stopped carrying flash grade aluminum, or just put an assload of restrictions on buying it. The only place I could find any was ebay. Is it a good idea to buy pyro chemicals on ebay?

That probably depends on what you buy. The fuzz is probably more on the lookout for oxidizers than metals.

You can make aluminum that's of tolerable grade for flash at home if you have access to a ball mill and don't mind having it tied up for quite a while. That's how I get my aluminum.

The biggest thing of the day was the half ton det. It was orgasmic. I burned my finger on a heug piece of shrap after it. Then that night when there was no power we could see shells off on the horizon. Probably the best 4th I've ever had.

All I did was go to girlfriends house and have a bbq. I had like 5 little baby bottle rockets that I brought from new mexico and thats it. Just sat and watched the very not good fireworks show we have here. I personally HATE the fuck out of the 4th of july at least the firework part, but at the same time LOVE it. I hate the shit out of it because it reminds me of all the shit I would love to do and wish I was able to again, and theres no fireworks allowed here period, so can't even buy them. But I love it because I get to see fireworks and the like plus its a great day. Independence day is one of our best holidays, it just brings out the whole Nationalism in us all and reminds of us how much better we are then britain because we wooped their salad tossing asses and became our own country. GO AMERICA, and GO FIREWORKS WOOT!!!!!!

I was thinking of starting a 'Fourth thread, but I thought there probably was one already. Anyways, I lit a few big flash salutes. I also lit a few simple homemade bp rockets with a flash salute at the end. The rest were all retail bottle rockets and firecrackers. All of this was lit in honor of the 1000+ wild fires raging here. Ironically, when I was driving around, I saw more people lighting fireworks than I ever have. Lots of mortars and rockets too.

I didn't get to blow up SHIT because I was too busy tripping my fucking head off talking to people who weren't there. I went to a lake, and brought flash powder materials etc, but never got around to it because I was off my ass so hard.

And I was afraid of any possible reaction from in laws. They hear a big boom, they KNOW it's me, and would probably assume that I made something huge and crazy or something.

I am making up for lost time now though, made the flash, and have been working on a few small devices like salutes and flash pots. The salutes are pretty worthless considering I now live IN the city, and it would cause all kinds of shit, but the flash pots are for the local fire performers, spinners, breathers, eaters, etc, I figured they would get a kick out of it, and maybe want to buy a few to use in their performances.

And normally, I am against selling or giving this kind of shit away, but these folks are smart, and know safety.
