Hey guys, recently I noticed how readily avaliable salicylic acid was, (partially due to its uses not only in wart and spot treatment, but as the basis for aspirin) in bulk quantities and in 1/2lb bags.

I then started to wonder if it was possible to convert this OTC chem into salicylaldehyde a.k.a 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde, a more useful chemical in clandestine chemistry (in the route to phenylamines?).

The only useful information I could find on the web was an extract from an article containing a reference to using an electrochemical reaction. But it certainly gave the impression it is possible.

Now totse I ask you for any information regarding this article, what kind of setup is needed, optimum voltages required, frequency required, how reactants and the products separated etc. Anything that relates to this process really.

Many thanks in advance

EDIT: I have since found this http://tinyurl.com/organicelectrochem which makes a reference to the required reaction.
