The brewers are 3 games behind the cubs. How does this trade affect the playoff race

Well I think it was a smart move by the Brewers. I don't think they will beat out the Cubs for the division, although it's definitely a possibility. Like I stated in my thread though, I do believe they will win the wildcard with a slight edge over the Cardinals.

...and if they don't, ultimate fail as they'll probably lose both Sabathia and Sheets this winter, and usher in even more years of fail..

While it sure could happen, I really think Attanasio WILL dangle a monster contract for one of those guys...such a good home run hitting team needs an ace to make themselves a complete team. However, if Parra continues to progress as he has, they might take a chance to save the money. Gagne's 10 million dollars will be gone for sure as well, plus I think they'll make a decision on Billy Hall eventually as well; He's made it obvious he doesn't want to be in Wisconsin.

I know both guys are gonna hit the market and will be tempted, but Attanasio has pockets deeper than the Grand Canyon, as it appears. I think he'll manage to retain one of the two, but it's gonna be on the player's terms, so he's gonna have to be ready to pay.

EDIT: I didn't even answer the OP's question.

I think the Brewers are gonna take a short-lived division lead by the end of this month, with a bunch of easy teams at home and the cubs going on the road against a little tougher competition. However, something always seems to happen to Milwaukee, and I think they'll end up with the wildcard when the season all said and done.

I think today's Rich Harden deal just negated the whole Sabathia trade. I really don't see the Cubs being surpassed for the division lead now. Actually, I didn't think the Brewers could do it even with Sabathia before the Harden deal. But Milwaukee is obviously in contention for the wild card, and it looks like the Cardinals might be left out this October.

I'm stunned that the A's traded Harden. I'm so tired of Beane trading every single one of our big stars away. It's outrageous. Man, just this season it's been Haren, Swisher, and Harden. God dammit.

Harden is an absolute stud no doubt about that, but he gets injured multiple times every single season. He's already been on the DL this season, so I'm sure it's just a matter of time until he gets a more serious injury. Either way the Brewers aren't going to surpass the Cubs now that they have Harden.

Don't forget
Giambi
Damon

Foulke (though he's back, but is terrible now)

ugh sometimes I hate Billy Beane. The only person we've really kept was Chavez and he's terrible.

As a big Cubs fan, this thread makes me smile. It's nice to see the Cubs deserving and getting respect for a change!

I feel bad for you A's fans, I really do. Billy Beane is one of those guys who seems to have a good idea, but I would hate to see him running my team. The A's have dealt a lot of good players, but that's the Beane strategy. As soon as a player shows some value, he gets traded. I'm sorry to say that pattern will be repeated until he leaves and someone else takes his place.

I believe the Cardinals are going to get hit with a lot of injuries as the season goes on. The division and the NL wildcard will go to the Cubs and Brewers in some order. God knows the wildcard won't come out of the NL West. Can you believe the records those teams have right now? It's crazy. Even when the NL Central was weak, it was never that bad.

Oh yes the pattern will be repeated, but I wouldn't say it'll keep on going until Beane leaves. The A's are a small market team and play in the worst stadium in the country for professional sports. Once the A's move into their new stadium in Fremont they'll attract infinitely more people than they do now thus boosting them into a big market team that can afford to keep their revolving door of all-stars. So I'd say the pattern will keep on going until until the A's move in 2011. Beane has said that he's building and preparing the team for the move. Oh and fuck Fremont! I don't want to have to drive 30 extra miles. And so help me god if they change their name to the Fremont A's I will run someone over.
