Is it illegal to commit a crime to prove a crime? is that called something?
I'm too baked to think of an example.

Yeah, its called a crime.
the only exception is if:
you kidnap the evil mayors daughter to use her against the mayor to prove he stole the money that was ment to fix up the towns rat problem.

Wasn't there a man who stole a van and later found out that it was loaded with explosives, so he turned it in to the police?

Yes it is illegal to commit a crime to prove/solve a crime. Else the police would have no boundries whatsoever to solve crime and luckily, they have.
Simple example:
Your wallet got stolen and you saw person X take it with him into his house. You decide to break and enter the house to search for it. Person X catches you on the scene and calls the cops. Although you tell the cops you were retrieving your wallet and it clearly is your wallet with your ID and such in it, the cops will arrest you for breaking and entering. You will do time and person X will recieve a mere fine/probation.
DO NOT commit crimes to prove crimes. DO NOT take justice into your own hands. ALWAYS report a crime to lawenforcement.

I can asure you, I was perfectly right about that. If you see a crime in progress or know of a crime happening/ has happened. Then report that to your local police contact. Ofcourse, under the pretention YOU are not involved in (the) crime.

In the UK, petty crimes don't even get took to court and if they do, the judge has orders off the government not to jail them, give them a slap on the wrist - seen it on the news and in the papers recently.
The police can't be arsed trying to catch real criminals, all they're bothered about is hitting their 'targets' by fucking over motorists all the time, as they are easy prey, giving out tickets, fines, points, bans, etc.
The UK is a serious joke, if i could offord to move to a new country i would, i hate this place.
