there is no fast way to get dreads that will last and not mold and result in you having to shave them off
just stop using conditioner and stop combing your hair
these people here can help you

it depends what kind of dreads you want, but it always pays to do your research first.
if you want neat looking ones, some hairdressers will do them for you but not all of them. youre best off paying a bit extra and getting them done at a place that specialises in them.
when i used to have dreads, i just got my mates to do them. that was a mistake. if you want them to keep, you can cheap out and get some friends to do it for you, just make sure they are doing it right.
and it will hurt! i reckon it was worse than getting a tattoo, but like i said, it was my mates doing it, so i think the sadistic bastards quite enjoyed it lol.
This site (http://www.dreadheadhq.com/) has pretty much all you need to know, and if you don't mind shelling out a bit more cash, their products kick ass. especially the wax (although regular beeswax is a good substitute) and the locking powder/spray.
when you shower, shower with a showercap, and don't wet your hair at all for the first month or so.
after that, use a residue free shampoo(eg i used tea tree shampoo) about once a week if you dont want your hair to stink like shit.
doing the whole 'not washing your hair until it dreads' thing isn't worth it. it depends on your hair type, but it will take years to form tight, nasty dreads. and your scalp will itch like a motherfucker. its not worth it. use product and do it in a fraction of the time. they will look better too.
any other questions, just ask me.
hope this helps, and good luck.

There is really no half-assed or fast way to grow dreadlocks. It was close to 6-8 months before mine started really knotting and hardeing.
What I did was section them out, putting rubber bands at the base of the section of hair. I then invested in some really good, expensive dreadwax. You can find it at Black salons and Black salon stores, etc. Then, it takes a SHIT TON of back combing and twisting and rubbing for months. You need someone to help you initially, and expect to spend at least 6-8 hours starting them off.
I got my buddy to do them by giving him a few doses.
It's relativley simple, yet time consuming.
Just backcomb like you've never backcombed before.

don't use any kind of wax or rubberbands or they will mold and you'll have to shave them off and start over the right way. just do it right the first time. no wax, no rubberbands, and make sure you keep your hair clean and use shampoo

thats bullshit. it takes months to get dreads dirty enough to mould. with wax and bands you can wash your hair once in a while and just rewax/reband your hair. and they look/feel/smell much much better.
Dreads arn't just a matter of "doing it right the first time". It's an ongoing process and it takes months to get them properly tight. and you won't get hair to continually knot and reknot properly without wax/ rubberbands unless you want to stop washing your hair. and believe me, not wahing your hair sucks.
and dont use regular rubber bands. use the softer ones that don't pull your hair. you can buy them off the internet or from specialty stores.

wow. keeping your hair clean and not combing it is all you need to do to get dreads. sure if you want instant dreads use a bunch of wax and rubberbands but they won't last, and they will smell/mold.
not washing your hair prevents your hair from knotting because the more greasy your hair is the harder it is for it to form knots. you want to keep using shampoo but not conditioner.
prettey much all that has been said is the best advice.
On the topic of wax, go light on it. And the concept of wax is to lock your hair strands. so when you lock your hairstrand you're preventing the growth and room for future hairs to stem and form into even thicker locks. If I were you I would only wax the sectioned off square base of the dreadlock. This will kind of set a path for future hairs to grow. Don't wax the middle or bottom of the dreadlock

You can get your hair chemically dredded at some 'high-class' salons, however it is rather expensive. Otherwise growing it out will take you about 3 years, it is harder than you think; I tried to do dreads for awhile when I was 18, I ended up just straightening it out when it was shoulder length, to much work.

yeah, by chemically dreaded you mean perming solution? thats what they used on my hair when i went to get them fixed up professionally. didn't work too badly, but it's not like you don't need to maintain them afterwards.
op, if you can get your hands on perming solution, it might come in handy. just dont leave it in, and don't get it in your eyes.

Something like that, I don't know what they call it in the US lol. But yes, either way it is a shit ton of work
