I thought reading basic texts might be beneficial to learning a language. Just wondering, does anyone know of really, really simple books in other languages? I'd get a LOT of satisfaction, and it'd give me a lot of drive to continue if I could read an entire book in French, or maybe eventually Japanese.

Did anyone else have colour coded books in school? Where really easy books would be white or some shit, then different colours would indiciate different difficulties and you'd have to work your way up. Is there anything about which is like this for other languages? I'm trying to take the 'pimsleur' approach, basically learning a language like a child would, and doing something like this seems like a logical step.

Try le petit prince, anything tintin, and google for french translations of disney books. There is not shortage of things to read in french.

I don't understand why everyone goes crazy over Le Petit Prince. It puts me to fucking sleep.

Tintin is a great recommendation though. The language is very clear, yet also very fluent. I would check out uztranslations as well, as there are lots of children's resources (as well as non-children resources) there that may come in handy.

These are children's tools, but French In Action is an AMAZING immersion program, and Les Aventures De Chloe (or something to that effect) is a great radio program (google it) for practicing French.

anything tintin

I've suddenly remembered reading all the Tintin comics in a single week one summer holiday. I had read one or two before, and they really impressed me, so I decided to rent all of them from the library. You wouldn't happen to know if there are any French editions online, would you?
