View Full Version : Good Idea for a Story?
A man dies, goes to heaven. It is built of his own preconceived view of heaven. It looks exactly like he pictured it. He finds this a little troubling at first, but continues on. He lives in heaven a while, talking to people, experiencing life just as he did on earth. He goes through the same suffering mentally as he did on earth, yet heaven is just how he pictured it. He realizes the cyclical nature of life in heaven easier, because it is supposed to be the final goal, yet he doesn't feel like he is in heaven. He ultimately learns that heaven wasn't to be found in the things he was looking for, and finds it inside.

It may have been done.
I think it would be interesting if he found absolute contentment and perfection to be more like hell because he has no drive or reason to live anymore.

Maybe...
Hey, write it, post it, we'll see.
Have a pop.
If you can visualise your story, are determined and have the ability to write: you need to get out there and crack on with it.
Perhaps I will. I'll get back to you guys in a while.
Edit: Thanks for the encouragement. Looks like I've found a forum overlooked by the flamers and kids.

Good luck man. Get that first chapter down ASAP. The more you think about shit, the more you'll never get it done.
I'm still planning out my fucking book. Plan's got to like 40 pages long and I don't think I'll ever start it because I want to have shit 'perfect' before I crack on.

I know the feeling! Except I haven't even got round to planning it, or even knowing what it's going to be about. I'm so uncreative though:rolleyes:, so I'm gonna go for non-fiction. Probably military aircraft, as that's the only thing I know anything about. But there are so many books about that already...:(
What to do?

south park??
Sounds like something Philip K Dick would write... or Richard Matheson. I dunno, sounds good though, do it, post it, we'll be your "critics".
Show the futility of man's continual quest for happiness by continually altering heaven to suit the man's desires, and continually having him be dissatisfied until he either a) finds happiness inside of himself, or b) gives up (or something).

Yep. That was the idea, although I'm not sure what you mean by "gives up something."

It was "gives up (or something)". Meaning that he dies or leaves heaven or something.

How can the dead die?

"Or something"

I'm almost positive Asimov or Bradbury did this one. Maybe it was in the Martian Chronicles...
