Because some Australians were molested by priests. This just annoys me. If you got molested fair enough, I'd be pissed too, but protesting the Pope as if this is somehow his fault is just ridiculous.

There a lot of reasons people protest the Pope, and have protested the pope.
In this case the Pope is the figurehead for the Catholic Church which covered for kiddie fuckers. Protesting in front of a Cathedral in Australia (that is to say, protesting the church) will not bring as much spotlight to your cause when compared to protesting the leader himself.
Perhaps they would like an apology directly to them from the leader of the men who helped each other fuck children.
God bless.

You probably should have considered clicking that link I posted. He is apologizing.
as someone that lives in australia, the catholic church doesn't only play with little kids. the NSW government has willingly bent over and accepted the unsheathed sword of the pope as well as catholic rule making protest illegal (or anything that is classed as "annoying"). the only reason the pontiff is apologizing is because people are complaining, and if he doesn't there will be a lot more protest. its not like the dark ages when the church doesnt like the bad press it slaughters the people it doesnt agree with.

Im sure there is a plethera of evils to protest for. Im not at all fond of this pope, less than most that have had the place. The issues people have dont nesssisarily have to be confined to australia; perhapse the global fuck ups commited and still commited by the church, so why not protest?

It's a bit pathetic that while we'll have the Pope apologizing, the head of the church in over here, George Pell, hasn't committed to an apology himself.

^^^And this is just repugnant. No one is above criticism.
sorry bout that mate, it was a little dig i couldnt resist.
it was just a symbolism and ill edit it out if u so wish. it was symbolizing that the church gets what it want when it wants even though we, australia, are a secular nation.

I'm pretty sure a bunch of law students contested this new law recently. Since they never explicity defined what a "minor annoyance" constitutes, i'm pretty sure they'll be quite lenient about it.
I was in the city today and a met a few policemen. They all seemed really relaxed and happy. They were sitting there talking happily to a guy with a radically anti-catholic t-shirt, and it seemed like they really couldn't give a shit.
It should be alright, as long as no-one assassinates the pope. IMO, the point of the new laws was so it made it look like the government was being pro-active about the proceedings.
I'd be a hell of a lot more pissed off about the way they handled public transport.
mate, even if priests do apologise, it'll be just as easy for them to fake an apology as it was for them to root little kids, altough i cant wait to see what the chasers war on everything does at the WYD thing:D

it pisses me off that they call it "world youth day" and not "world catholic youth day"
just thought i'd add that in.
and its not just the pedo stuff that is being protested. there are also protests about the catholic church's denouncement of condoms in africa.
which imo is much worse than a few kids getting fondled.
i'll be glad when all these bloody catholics take their guitars and retarded smiles the hell out of my city:mad:

I have to reluctantly give the FGI (former Grand Inquisitor) some props for at least acknowledging the situation, but those are still just words.
I'll start wearing a "the Pope rocks!" t-shirt when the Catholic Church stops oppressing women.
it pisses me off that they call it "world youth day" and not "world catholic youth day"
no it should be called world youth day, for the reason when u dont believe in santa, the toothfairy and the easter bunny you are no longer a 'child'. you have started to gather a sense of reality.
so for all those that believe in the entity that created the universe, but not the one that delivers presents to every child in a single night, u certainly deserve the term youth.

Yes, apologizing for what priests have done while he himself has helped these very priests escape prosocution (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/bsp/hi/pdfs/28_09_06_Crimen_english.pdf)... Yeah, I think he can shove his "apology" up his fucking ass.
the only thing that annoys me about the pope coming (apart from all the wankers running around the eastern suburbs waving flags, wearing stupid WYD shirts and trying to convert you as you walk past) is the fact that i would get a fine 5 times higher for wearing an 'offencive t-shirt' than running through there stark naked.
Might i add that many of my shirts could be seen as offensive. "Some people are alive simply because its illegal to kill them" is considered offensive so i've just started wearing a jumper permanently.
Oh, and for the actual fines. Streaking is a $1100 fine while skateboarding, wearing offencive t-shirts or HANDING OUT CONDOMS is $5500.
Stupid fucking youth week
