I'm contemplating joining a branch of the service, and i was curious as to the daily physical demands the army calls on you during Basic training. Once again this is a question for those of you that have actually served. I want to be able to atleast keep up with the norm before i enter so it isn't complete hell.

Run, a lot. Speed and distance are both important. Try to find out the requirements for your branch's fitness test, not the early ones but the ones you will be expected to do once you're qualified. Try that and see how you do and just improve from there.
Do lots of pushups and lots of whatever abdominal exercise is in vogue in the military you're going to join. Throw some endurance weight exercises in as well.
Days in basic training are quite long and we usually had boots on for about 14-16 hours each day.
Bring some blister tape/strapping tape with you and any other foot related stuff you can think of. Even if you have tough feet it's good to have for that day where you really get smashed, and handing out things like that to other trainees should help you out later down the line.

Shoot for a 9-11 minute 1.5 mile run, 50 push ups in 60 seconds, and 50 situps in 60 seconds.
If you can't, trust me when I say that you will be very able to once you're actually in basic training. You'll be working out every day.

You know the Army runs 2 miles....and have 2 minutes to do Situps and Pushups...
Assuming your under 22, shoot for a solid 14:30 minutes. You won't be the fastest, but you won't be the slowest.
Xippli's advice for 60 pushups and situps is solid advice though. Knock em out quickly, then keep pushing on to exceed the standard.

This.
If you are 18-21 years of age, then you have to do 35 pushups, run 2 miles in less than 16:36, and 42 situps in 2 minutes to pass the pt test in BCT. In AIT it has to be 42 pushups, and 53 situps in 2 minutes, and a 2 mile run less than 15:54.
When during BCT do you take the PT test?

When during BCT do you take the PT test?
Several 1-1-1 assesments (1 minutes pushups and situps, 1 mile run), and a few 2-2-2( 2 minute pushups/situps, 2 mile run) assesments. then you take a diagnostic PT test, and for most companies I here they take thier final APFT in like week 6 or 7, but we took ours on week 9. Even if you fail, you will most likely ship to AIT, you just wont walk the stage.
Just don't fail in AIT. they will put you in a Physical Training Unit (or FTU i think its called) for 30 days. Then if you STILL fail, I am pretty sure you get chaptered out.
nah im not worried about it. just wonderin when
