Okay I read these quick facts and figures in a mens magazine today and thought I would post them with a bit of commentary.

- 40 per cent of the world's entire defence spending comes from the US.

Last time I looked, worldwide spending in this area was estimated at 1 trillion dollars (what currency? Who knows) in 2007. Therefore 400 billion US dollars are spent (wasted?). Assuming there are 250 million people in the US, that is $1600 spent per person

- 247,000 US troops are currently deployed overseas in 130 countries.

Is this really necessary? Forgive my ignorance but if you asked me where troops were deployed I'd say Iraq and Afganistan...

- 1.4 million people work for the Pentagon

-400,000 properties are owned by the US Defence Force, covering 18 million acres of land

- 15,000 aircraft make up the US Air Force

- 13,000 is the amount of times you could drive a car around the world with the fuel the US military uses in a single day

Ho hum. And yes, like many others, I do complain about fuel prices, and yes I will lay blame on th military for the fact in my area it costs around $1.70 per litre.

- 27 Kilometres of corridors make up the Pentagon building.

Call me sour in saying this space reflects what goes down in the Pentagon, nothing.

- 92 per cent of war deaths are the result of a US weapon.

I find all of this interesting. I guess discuss? And feel free to post other points either pro or con military (but please no employment figures, I find I can only relate them to jobs for the sake of jobs;) )

I find that odd since the AK-47 is the worlds most widely distributed weapon...

'Widely distributed' and 'widely used to kill' aren't the same thing.

The military protects the countries economic interests abroad. This country would be shit without its strong military, especially now.

We sell people weapons, Wow! So does every other country with the industrial capacity to.

Yes, but with the AK-47 it is. 100 million made and 250,000 kills per year. http://english.aljazeera.net/programmes/general/2007/09/2008525173611641466.html

That makes an interesting question as to whether US -purchased AK's supplied to the Taliban consitute 'US weapons'.

Technically not I suppose, but as with most US military activities you can be sure to soon be sinking waist-deep in moral quicksand if you attempt to defend them.

It's about pointless killing, unnescessary jobs, power and wasting money...Could have gone either way...

Excellent post, but imagine what it was like in the 90's, when the US military had no one to fight.

And no, I don't believe in terrorists, aliens, portals or anything. The US military is just a massive keep-busy program funded by borrowed money. When the suppliers of the money stop suppling it, the US military will make the fall of the Red Army look like a "going out of business sale" at a discount furniture place.

Apparently US military fuel use is only 1.7% of the nations total fuel use.

Djibouti isn't a country.

Djibouti is very much a country. Been there done that and got the looming feeling of helplessness and doom too. I think their economy consists mostly of selling cigarettes and cokes for $10 a piece to fucktards who can't live without smokes and forgot to bring any. These are the most helpless people I've ever seen, and I find it laughable that anyone thinks they have a moral obligation to try to even help these people.
