I just got an old chemistry set as a gift. I don't know where it came from, all i know is its old. It has a decent amount of chemicals. But i don't know the first thing about them. so i was wondering if anyone had any ideas for pyrotechnics or explosions. It's a Chemcraft 1300 series chemistry set from Tyco. I don't know if everyting is there. I'll post some of the chemicals here in a minute.

Well here are most of the chemicals..... powdered iron, na HSO3, cu (OH) Cu CO3, Na Si O3,A12 (SO4) 18 H2O, Gum arabic, C16 H14 O6,Fe (SO4)(NH4)2 SO4 * 6H2O, FeNH4(SO4)2 * 12H2O, Na2 Co3, Na4 Fe (CN)6 1 Oh20, Ca (OH)2, NH4 Cl, Co Cl2 6H2O, Na HSO4, C76 H52 O46, NAl, Ca Cl2 6H2O, Na2 B4 O7 10 H2O, Cu SO4 5H2O,Na2 S2 O3, KCl, Zn SO4 H2O,Sr (NO3)2 4H2O, Mg SO4 7H2o, Ca S04 2H2O, and Ca H4 (PO4)2 H2O. I really didn't feel like typing the full names of all those.

[QUOTE=bored pyro;10242998]Well here are most of the chemicals.....
powdered iron,
na HSO3
, cu (OH)
Cu CO3,
Na Si O3
,A12 (SO4) 18 H2O
, Gum arabic,
C16 H14 O6,
Fe (SO4)(NH4)2
SO4 * 6H2O, FeNH4(SO4)2 * 12H2O,
Na2 Co3,
Na4 Fe (CN)6 1 Oh20,
Ca (OH)2,
NH4 Cl,
Co Cl2 6H2O,
Na HSO4,
C76 H52 O46,
NAl, Ca Cl2 6H2O,
Na2 B4 O7 10 H2O,
Cu SO4 5H2O,
Na2 S2 O3,
KCl
, Zn SO4 H2O,
Sr (NO3)2 4H2O,
Mg SO4 7H2o,
Ca S04 2H2O,
and Ca H4 (PO4)2 H2O.
it would be helpful if you could condense those formulas, i dont understand what all the H2O's are, you mean hydrates?
Anyway, with a breif overview, i see Sr(NO3)2 and CuCO3. Sr(NO3)2 could be used as a oxidizer and a red coloring agent, if you mixed it with a fuel (anything should work, with aluminum in the right ratio you can get a colored flash poweder), and CuCO3 is a coloring agent used in stars.

There is a composition using strontium nitrate and aluminum, magnesium will work too

I know basically nothing about chemistry and i just took the formulas straight off the bottle, they give the full name then a formula. but if needed I can post all the names. its just a pain.

Most people here could read those formulas as if they were plain English, don't bother.
Not a whole lot usefull for pyrotechnics, except for the Sr(NO3)2 and maybe the gum arabic
but as awlays:
Find a chemical for a purpose, not a purpose for a chemical.
Just because you have these doesn't mean you should try to do something (anything) with them.
Put them away, get learning, you might want those for something one day.

Yeah I really didn't think there would be anything of real use in there. It was worth a shot though.

NOTHING OF USE?!?!
NOTHING OF USE?!?!?!
if you do a little study almost all of those can be used in reactions to get some seriously fun shit!

Well like I said, I'm not a chemist.
just mix everything in a bowl then pour bleach into it see what happens.
film it too
