I think this is the right forum, but if it isn't, oh well.

I just got contact lenses after wearing glasses for around 10 years. I've had them for about 4 days, and I'm wondering if any fellow TOTSEans have any advice on putting them in and taking them out. Right now, unless I get lucky, I can get both in in around 15 minutes and out in around 5. About the only thing I've noticed is that they're easier to put in when you place them on the part of the eye farthest from the nose. Again, any advice?

place ur index finger just under your eye, centered.
pull down with your finger, open your mouth (dunno why it helps but it does) and look up.
this will make the open part of ur eye huge, so pop the contact in and look around to center it on ur pupil.

it gets easier with time.

Try to center it on the colored part of your eye. The contact should be approximately the same size as the colored part of your eye. If you can do that without flinching you'll have them both in in under a minute.

What i do isnt the best way to do it but it works

i have trouble getting them in occasionally and i dont have the time to take them out and put them back in

I put them in, leave them in for about a few weeks then taking them out. I use expensive eyedrops ( rohdos, the best ones you can get) and i put them in about once a day...works great for me, i guess it just matters what your eyes react like to it

Thats funny, I always put it on the white of my eye, and it slides into center and it takes me 10 seconds to put them in or take them out

Thanks for all the advice everyone!

I did that this morning and it seemed to work pretty well. It was folded at the edge so I just pushed it around with my finger, and it unraveled and went in just fine. Probably took me about 10 minutes for both this morning, counting the time it took to remove one and clean it because of a piece of dust in it (ouch!)

Again, thanks.

Weird. When I tried that it slid into the bottom of my eye and folded over. I guess it works differently for different people.

If you're having trouble getting them in it's probably because you haven't got your eyelids propped open enough and they're getting in the way. Use the thumb and forefinger of one hand to really pry them open while you stick in the lens with the other hand.

Make sure the lenses are very moist on the inside, and that the finger you're using to stick it in is nice and dry. The lenses adhere to wet surfaces, so you don't want it to stick to your finger, but you want it to latch on to your eye nice and quick like.

Also, look straight ahead with the eye you're putting the lens on. You should apply the lens directly onto the iris/pupil, not on the side like it sounds like you're doing. You should be looking straight ahead, and putting the lens in from the front.

Didn't they teach you this when you bought the lenses?

I put the lens on my index finger, pull my bottom eyelid down with my middle finger and slide the lens onto my EYELID.

Then, when the lens is just sitting on my eyelid I look down at it and let my eyelid back up. Takes a few seconds and is the easiest way in my experience.

Congratulations, you're a fucking idiot.

For one, you're not supposed to use Rohto with your contacts in. For two, I'm gonna lol in 5 years when you have weird protein growth under your eyelid and shit.

Yea like the OP I suck at putting them in. I only wear them when I do something where my glasses would really get in my way. Since I wear them so little I suck at putting them in. It feels like I ahve a death grip on my eye lids but as soon as my finger gets close to my eye, my eye shuts. So my brother usually has to hold my eye lids open while I pop it in. Ya I know, it sounds gay, but it only takes like 30 seconds that way.

You'll get better with time.

I just leave mine in for days at a time. Then occasionally I'll take them out to clean them.

Put a contact lense on the tip of your index finger. Put your middle fingertip beneath the middle of your eye and pull your bottom eyelid down by flexing the last couple knuckles only. Look to the side, at the tip of your index finger, so that your other eye is looking at your nose and not really giving you any image. This helps you get it lined up right. Touch your eye with your index finger and move your eye a little once the lense is on it. It only takes maybe 5 seconds and you don't need a mirror.

I think your problem is you are uncoordinated/scared of your own finger/retarded/all of these.

And you guys who leave them in for days are just plain stupid.

Your using gel lenses right?
Does anyone know if there is a paticular type that can be used for a long period of time? Mine are good for about 3 weeks then I should tecnically switch lenses, although I usually use them for a month an a half.
The one time I fell asleep with my contacts in I woke up with a huge headache and my eyes were FUCKED for the next 4 houres, so I dont know what the fuck posseses people to leave them in for multiple days.

Not really. My contacts last me a pr/yr easily, but I don't keep them that long just cuz. It has to do with protein levels and acidity in your eye and shit. Kinda just luck.

Not much else I can say, most everyone's already said it. Just relax; it gets much easier with time. Also, don't be a lazy ass and leave them in for more than a day or two. They're ok overnight once in a while but make sure you clean them and put fresh solution in the case with them every night.
