View Full Version : Currently snowboarding in New Zealand...
So I'll write a something to add to the sticky at the top of the forum.
Currently I'm in Methven, a town at the base of Mt Hutt in Canterbury. Snowboarding for a atleast two weeks.
So far I I'm going to skydive, bungee, white water raft, cave exploring, etc.
Anything you guys would like me to do that would add to the expierice that I could review?
Go to the top of Mt. cook, visit geysers.
I was in New Zealand 2 weeks or so ago.
Absolutely fucking beautiful country. I'm planning on spending a month or so there when I get the chance, and do all the things that you mentioned.

Don't do touristy things. Meet the locals...you will find out what true nz is from there ;D
Okay...so far I've been stalling, I've just been snowboarding every day.
Next week end I'm going to Queenstown from Thursday to Sunday. It should be very interesting. That week end I'll be bungee jumping, skydiving, white water rafting and flying with a redbull aerobatics pilot, not to mention a shitload of partying inbetween.
After that I'll try and head to Mt Cook on my way back to Methven.
To the person who said to meet the locals, yeah it's a good idea, unless you're an aussie. To an aussie New Zealanders are just aussies with weird accents who earn less. There's not really any difference between the nations.
*edit*
Although one thing I have noticed: Aussies are pretentious fuckwits. Every one at my hostel has hated the dozens of aussies that came through here. I'm the only one they get along with. This may sound pretentious in it's self, but I thin people from Sydney are major offenders.
Another thing I learnt, the Irish are the most friendly people going around.

So far NZ kicks ass and I'm loving it. I'll write more detailed guides soon. Like a queenstown guide and a methven guide. I'll have to hit up Christchurch and Wellington soon.
Climbing Mt Somers in a few days. Me, an Irish guy and two Irish girls, over two days.

To Sybil, I looked into going to Mt Cook, I even went to about 25 minutes away from the base so I have lots of photos of it. But you can't really climb it for less than $3,000 with out a guide. Apparently you need one because of avalanches and transponders and shit. It claims 2 lives every year on average so it's not to be messed with. But yeah, even if you climb it, you can't actually stand on the summit any more. Something to do with Maori tradition, and that touching the head is disrespectful, and they believe that Mt Cook or Aoraki is a person.
That's why I'm settling for a mountain closer to me, even if it IS much smaller.
Does any one know a mountain on the Sth Island (preferably Canterbury that is big enough that it's a two day hike/climb, is difficult for a novice, but do-able with out a guide and not ridiculously careless to do so?
