Ok I have been getting into wifi and the like recently and trying to read up on homemade antennas used to get better wifi signals from farther distances.

I have a Directv sattellite dish on my roof, but we no longer recieve directv service. What I was wondering was if it would be possible to adapt this dish to be used as a wifi antenna?

This may be a stupid idea but I was curious. If it can be done, how would one go about doing it?

Additonally, I have an Arris wired router supplied by my cable company that connects to my Linksys wireless router. Would it be possible to simply run the coaxial cable from my dish to the cable router (I'm assuming no, but it's worth asking) and use it to recieve the signals?

Lots of questions I know... I'm reading what I can find aswell, but personal assistance is alot less frustrating sometimes.

With the dish you would just mount the antenna at the focal point, where the current receiver thing is.

You can't run the coax directly to the cable modem, you would have to run it to the wireless router.

Unfortunately the wireless router does not have a coax port, it gets the connection via ethernet cable from the cable router.

If youre thinking about using TV cable coax then youre way off.

And the coax ports will be on the PCB the antennas are wired to.

Can't he just replace the satellite pick-up unit (LCB??) with a USB wi-fi dongle in a tin can? It is worth a shot rigging it up anyway, but I doubt you will get much distance in rain and bad weather.
