it really picks up around episode 50-60 and i'm just getting into the 100s now. eiichiro oda is a really good story teller. his filler is amazing. :D

I don't watch the anime, but the manga is my favorite story of ALL time. His story telling is superb to anything I've ever encountered before. See, you're only in the beginning 100s... that's around chapter 150~. The manga is already at chapter 506. You have long ways to go.

The anime filler turned me off to the anime completely. I can't stand it anymore. But the manga is so good... so very, very good.

So many elements of the story fit in later. Characters we met in chapter one are suddenly appearing again in chapter 500 something.

Oda does not forget about his past characters.

I wish I was a pirate...

I'm about as serious about wanting to be a pirate as I am about doing something in biology when I'm older.

I figure I save up enough to get a loan, buy a boat, and flee the country/fall off the radar. God damn it'd be a dream.

Do it. Do it. Do it.

But I like the filler of One Piece, because as long as it has all the characters I like it's awesome for me. In fact, One Piece and other Jump series is the only thing that kept me going sometimes...

Considering the massive size (lol) of One Piece, you may want to start with streaming. It's already at 364 episodes, so it'd take a long ass time to download all of it. I didn't really find you a torrent, but if you care to start streaming...

http://anime-media.com/category/one-piece-episodes/page/36/

Otherwise try, isohunt, demonoid, thepiratebay, or boxtorrents.

Go to google and search Kaizoku Fansubs.

They are the highest quality subbers of One Piece.

Manga is still number one!

One Piece is playing on my TV right now. I can't really get into it because the way it's drawn pisses me off for some reason. Is it worth forcing myself to get used to it?

i like the anime and manga. the only down side is the world ending in the next 10 is more likely then one piece.

they are probably playing dubs. the dubs are terrible. if you watch the dubs you will slowly begin to hate anime in general. if you watch the subs you will get a much deeper appreciation for the story.

Ok, let me rant off to you a little. The very first time I saw One Piece was the 4Kids dub on FoxKids well over three years ago.

I hated it. It had the gayest sounding voice actors I've ever came across. The art was very off the wall, I was greatly turned off to it.

But I, being an anime fan since 4 years, I knew better. I did some research on the net, heard nothing but good things despite the art and picked up episodes 1-136.

Those were some glorious moments in my life, discovering the deep story telling embedded in the story, the drama, the comedy, the character development. Everything essential to an epic story was present. It had it all. It was the greatest series I had ever seen.

I couldn't wait for the episodes to be released. (I originally got them from Kaizoku-Fansubs who were far behind on the current episodes and no other groups were subbing One Piece 3 years ago.

This is when I picked up the manga, discovered all the parts I hated in the anime were just filler. And sailed smoothly on the greatest story ever told. Now I prefer the art style over any other series, it's very unique, very distinguishable. You'll definitely grow to love it.

This series is better than Harry Potter, Star Wars, Naruto and many more all combined.

Okay guys, I'm gonna start the daunting task of reading/watching one piece.

Should I begin with the manga? Or should I watch the anime and read the manga thereafter?

I'm not sure... I suppose it depends on which you like better (moving pictures of still ones) and how much you can stand filler.

I would maybe watch first... then read... but you could try to do both at 'once', and just know where the next chapter overlaps with the episode.

Okay, thanks. I started by watching the anime then reading the manga to see which is better, it seems I prefer reading!

Thanks, well I shall continue on this quest ;)

The manga is a million times better. My only qualm is that sometimes during fights it's hard to tell what's going on.

I think that's the only reason why I did watch the anime. Some fights are like, "Ok so this guy's in this panel... Next panel: What the hell? How did he get over there? What's that swirly line mean!? Why's that guy flying away!?!"

But that's just manga in general. Not just One Piece.

you have to appreciate luffy beating people down in the anime, especially as he gets better and better. you can tell that they just learn how to draw everything better in the later episodes. :D

Personally, I think they just reserve all the show's budget for the fights which is why we get a lot of still scenes.

But that's not a bad thing.

HOWEVER! I believe that they should have done One Piece with breaks in between as to prevent all this shitty filler we get. Plus the budget could have been used more aggressively.

EX:

Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicles, Season 1 and Season 2, then the Tokyo Revelations OVA.

That's how One Piece, and for that matter every Shonen anime, should have done it.

Spit a season out, let the budget accumulate, then spit out another quality season.

THIS IS MADNESS!!!

One Piece is excellent. I started reading the manga years ago, before most even knew what it was. It was and continues to be one of my favorite manga.

I thought "damn, this is such an awesome manga the show must at least be ok..."

Dear God, was I wrong. Horrible, ridiculous, and edited/censored beyond belief. It was One pPece with the soul ripped out. Never again will I watch it. One day though, I will continue where I left off in the manga as it is truly one of the greatest I've ever read.

You're in for a fucking surprise. That's under Chapter 100... THEY'RE ON CHAPTER 506! And they just only reached the halfway point in the series...

So many arcs have happened, so many new crew members.

Does anybody know where I can get the Funimation dubs? Or if they're any better than the 4Kids dubs? I know it has the original dialog, but are the voices any good?

FUNimation is the studio that did Fullmetal Alchemist and Dragonball Z. I personally think they're one of the better dub studios out there, but what the hell man? It's not going to get any better dub-wise. If you have that much of worry, just watch the subs. You can't go wrong that way.

AND OF OF COURSE THEY'RE BETTER THAN 4KIDS!

Have you even seen the 4Kids trash? That's not One Piece, that's Trisomy 21 meets One Piece manufactured by turkeys!!! Complete utter bullshit.

I don't know. I don't watch dubs, I just know remember seeing one episode of the 4Kids line and regretted it for the rest of my life. They ruined a beautiful piece of art.

I've watched the first few subbed episodes, I just prefer dubs when they're available and as good as the subs.

I used to read the manga for a while, but kinda just stopped reading around chapter 160...

Do luffy and his crew actually do any real piracy???

iSoape
2008-08-25, 11:53
Yes, they do. They get so much money out of it, that they have a new ship built for them.

Ironically enough they stole some gold, although they had saved the people they stole it from who were on their way to give them an even bigger piece of gold for the Straw Hats' great deed.

They also destroyed one of the main Government/Marine bases to rescue one of their nakama causing them to be known throughout the world and every single crewmember obtaining a bounty.

It was a 60 something man fight (with Straw Hats and allies) vs. thousands of marines and elite fighters.

That whole arc was nothing short of epic.

AHHHH! THE LASTEST CHAPTER, 513! OH MAN!

***SPOILER***

The entire crew is defeated by Kuma! One of his powers is to send people flying for 3 days and 3 nights with a hit from his paw-hand.

He sent flying every single Strawhat member... at this point it's only speculation, but this could mean that every member is scattered across the grandline or even elsewhere all on their own. Luffy had a break down because he could not even save on nakama and then was sent flying himself.

When Kuma hits the target it literally looks like he teleported them.

The chapter ended with the line, "The Grandline, Shabondy Archipelago, Grove 12... on this day, the pirate crew captained by Monkey D. Luffy, the 'Strawhat Pirates'... were utterly DEFEATED...''

***SPOLIER END***

Each chapter is more and more unpredictable, no one will ever know what Oda is up to!

That chapter was so epic.. So.. Epic, I have no words to describe it, the despair in their faces, Luffy's face is almost heart wrenching...

First an epic Code Geass episode and now an epic OP chapter, this week has been an awesome one for anime.
