Greetings, subforum I've never ever browsed before.
I need your help on a matter quite close to me, my hair. I got long hair, and I love it. The thing is, it's not very convenient, and in half a years time I got to serve my mandatory military service (conscription), but instead of the army I chose something called the Danish Emergency Management Agency. This focuses on first aid, firefighting, that sort of stuff that will look good on a job application later on.
The problem is, gasmasks. There is no way I can keep my current hair and get in gasmask with ease, so something has to be done about my hair before this time. And recently I've been considering getting something done about it soon, but I'm not quite sure what I want. I still want semilong hair, due to the music I listen to, my fugly skin and the sheer awesomeness of having long hair.
So, I need help with finding a hairstyle that looks nice, is practical, and still kinda long, like so it covers my face down to my jaw, or something like it.
Is this perhaps something you could assist me with? I wont mind if it required some maintenance, so you don't need to worry about that. I really just want your opinion on what would look nice on me while still being practical.

To be honest after reading your post you may as well get a lot more cut off especially since you're going to be using a gas mask.

And fighting fire with curtains going on...Doesn't seem like the best idea as far as I can tell.

Don't shape yourself around your music, I used to have long hair like you (several times in fact) and didn't wake up the next morning thinking, "Shit, I'm throwing out all my Slayer CD's and getting me some Britney Spears!", hell even XiPPiLLi had really long hair (another &T mod) and he joined the US Air Force (correct me if I'm wrong XiP) and he looks fine these days (even if he does have that hat (which I'm embarrassed to admit I want)).

So maybe think about something shorter.

Personally, I think you should get surfer hair. It's long(ish), easy to maintain and you can let it get messy and it just looks better.

I have showered once in the past 10 days. About five times the last 40 days, hurray for holidays. That might be it :)
I use a normal shampoo with urea/carbamide, aloe vera and provitamin B5, which I really like, it makes my hair feel nice, and I wouldn't use any other unless I really had to. It's pretty cheap as well, since it's a pretty normal Danish brand.
My conditioner is this http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/hair-care/schwarzkopf-gliss-conditioner-oil-nutritive/1099732/ I think, which I really only use when I need my hair to be soft and adorable and stuff, or if I haven't been able to clean it for a few days. Or haven't bothered cleaning it, which apparently is a real danger when I'm not seeing anyone due to holidays :)

Surfer hair, that's a good idea as well, but is it practical? Wouldn't you get it in your eyes, with no way to put it in a ponytail or something like that? sometimes I just can't stand having hair blocking my sight, looks like that's a hard thing to avoid with surfer hair..

I'm in almost the exact same predicament as you, except my hair is a few inches shorter. I need mine cut also, but would like to keep it as long as possible due to my shitty skin and also because nothing short seems to complement my face.

I would of just had my hair slicked back and cut it evenly in the back to the length you wanted. It looks about the same as a ponytail in the front , just minus the tail. Then when you finish your service you have perfect ends and let your hair grow back...

Re 2nd poster: I'm very conservative in dress sometimes, my haircut looks like a Mormon's. But Metal and its sub genres are amongst my favorite music.

IMO dressing or sometimes even behaving in a certain way cuts you off from other people. For example, most people dress like their peers and friends. Say I have mostly friends who dress like metal heads. At school, work, bars people automatically think "head banger" and there goes any potential for a relationship.
