I was just thinking a moment ago about what would happen if Light accepted the shinigami eyes. First off, his natural life is cut in half, right? But defines his natural life?
See, you have two versions.
Life sub 1, which is the life before meeting the shinigami. (let's say light lives 70 years)
and
life sub 2, which is after meeting the shinigami (now light lives 35 years, or does he?)
well, the 35 is the rude cut from the 75, but that's not the true life span left.
In all fairness, I suspect it would have to be life sub 3
life sub 1 + life sub 2 divided by 2 conflicting scenarios of the paradox (to remove paradox fallacy) = life sub 3 = 52.5
Do you agree or disagree?
I think the oddity lies within the fact Light would die around age 23.
As the shinigami said, his life would be cut in half. So, his full life would have been about 46 years.
But the paradox, if i saw enough of the anime, is that Light would die around 23. He didn't take the eyes, right?
So, there lies some odd paradox. The shinigami figured Light would maybe live a year or so and die if he took the eyes, thus the whole thing with Kira would be over quickly. Light would have died before ever being caught and sentenced to a natural death (which is without spiritual intervention). Furthermore, the next paradox is that there was spiritual intervention, or was there? So many problems with this...
The real question being asked here is this:
What is Light's real life span?

I like Vizards better than Shimigamis, they have hollow powers.

You'll also notice (at least in the manga) that Ryuk said it would take half of his REMAINING life span, which means that since through Ryuk's eyes you could see he only had 2 years left to live, that would be cut in half and he'd just live one more year. Geez, I didn't even get really into the series and I knew that shit.

Light was killed after his name was written in the death note. 'Death by death note' doesn't count as a natural death, therefore everything you wrote was irrelevant.
There's no way of telling what his natural lifespan would be. Probably a few years after his arrest, when he gets executed for mass murder.

if he was sent to prison, all those that believed in him would try and break him out

Remember that Near and L worked for an agency seperate from any government. They commanded both the FBI and the Japanese police force after all...
I doubt that a criminal as huge as Light would have been sent to a standard prison. chances are he'd be incarcerated alone in a secret location. This is compounded by the fact that Lights method of killing was the Death Note, something which would never hold up in court as a murder weapon.
However, suppose we ignore all that and say for arguments sake that he would go to a regular prison; no matter how fanatical the supporters of a criminal may be, they have to be incredibly sophisticated to pull off something like the springing of a prisoner. Especially from a maximum security establishment, as we could assume that that's where Light would be kept.
So to conclude my point: ur ghey lol.

that kind of scenario doesn't take light's intelligence and charisma into account. i'm pretty sure that he could work out and execute an escape plan on his own no matter what sort of prison he was sent to.
i wouldn't count on him just sitting and rotting quietly in prison.

You guys have to remember that the series had to end somewhere, and a series like this unfortunately seems to always have to end with a dead main character...
Now, Ryuuk actually said that he did not want to wait for Light to rot in prison. So, he used a technicality to say "his life is over now anyway," and killed him.
Next, back in the beginning of the series, remember that Ryuuk only said that when Light dies, it would be because of the shinigami writing his name into the Death Note. He did not say anything about waiting until the end of the lifespan, in theory, he could have written down Light's name any time he wanted. (Besides, keeping Light alive out of amusement is entirely what Ryuuk would do anyway, until he was bored, anyway.)
Because the eye deal works with your natural life span, and the death note does not, taking the eye deal would have actually extended Light's life in this case. How much, we will never know, however.
Finally, I should point out that it would have definitely been nice if Light was to escape before trying to use the scrap of note, killing his pursuers and retrieving the Death Note. If a death were still necessary, Light bleeding to death from the bullets would have been perfect, even giving us a set lifespan to work with, but you can't have everything...
Or perhaps if Misa had kept a few pages and her memory? that would have been a good idea, too.
Oh god this thread hurts my head. So much fagottry.
continue on, though..the manga said something..2yrs..etc

something tells me that anime is back on the hot topics list again...
i'm not sure if it's a good or a bad sign that the trolls are slowly moving back in. on one hand, it means that this forum is starting to see signs of life again. on the other hand, it means that we're going to be seeing more and more idiot troglodytes who only seem to know variations of the words "gay" and "faggot".
mildly annoying, but mostly harmless. if you engage them in intelligent discussion, they usually comeback with something like "stfu faggot" and then run away to continue screaming obscenities into their xbox-live headsets.
