View Full Version : Mescaline extraction
so i herd there are chemicals in a cactus that get you high? Does anyone have sourses? Alright, just kidding. Most mescaline extractions call for: making a cactus tea(either by boiling or alcohol extraction), "defattening" with xylene, acid base reaction, and evaporation. I read somewhere( I forgot where) that some individual made the pulp as usual, brought the pH level to 4, then let the acidic pulp mixture sit for a week. Supposedly, the ''fats" separated very well and he was able to siphon off defattened liquid and proceed as normal. Now considering xylene is the most expensive chemical in the extraction and a pain to separate out; this easy way of defattening would seem appealing to one interested in it. However, I do not know what "cactus fat" is composed of. Does anyone know if this is possible; or, was this guy just making this up?

It's not even that big of a deal, why worry about it?
It doesn't matter exactly what cactus fat is made of - it's just unwanted alkaloids, actual plant fat, and other garbage in the plant that you don't want. The only thing you are being unnecessarily worried about is the emulsion that forms when you de-fat the plant. Why let it sit for a week when instead you can simply fight the emulsion within minutes? Try adding salt. Google "emulsions" to find out how to get rid of them. Xylene is not a pain to separate out if you know how to battle an emulsion.
The guy probably wasn't making it up; an emulsion will dissipate after a period of time (sometimes). But the guy who said this is probably lazy as hell and/or doesn't know about emulsions and how to cure them.
And. . . Most mescaline extractions don't call for what you said; only one does - the one from Rhodium. It is a general procedure; very, very general.

Yes. Mescaline is great. Go buy some cactus and STFU

Depends, do you have an ultrasonic bath? Or are you naturally supremely talented at getting rid of emulsions? Besides, as far as I can tell, xylene isn't that expensive, less expensive for sure than fucking up the extraction and wasting all your cactus & therefore mescaline. Also, leaving even a drug as robust as mescaline swimming about in acidic solutions for a week might lead to some denaturing or change in structure, even if only in 1% of the mescaline in there.

I have left mine for 5 days by mistake in an acidic solution and after the workup i got some brown goo which was thrown away. Mescaline is crystal white nice crystals! Not black shit like in that video extraction that everyone seems to love, that guy in there is an idiot and is wasting chemicals, plants and time
Thanks for all of your responses.

You are right - it's not a big deal. I just figured it'd be easier than what I am doing. There are more pros than cons with the lazy way. I just use a small pipette and a graduated cylinder to remove the xylene at the moment. I have only had an emulsion once, and it did not separate; I wound up having to throw it away. And, what extraction do you usually perform? What do you think I am doing that is unnecessary?
