Well, these kleenexes were marketted 100% cellulose wadding. My guess is that i totally didn't let it nitrate enough.

When it burns it makes a weird greenish flame and leaves some orange crap on whatever it was standing on.

I personally like to do the first hour or three at 0 - 5 degrees, and then let it come up to room temp or whatever over night. It might be slightly unsafe, but when working with NC, especially in the quantities I like to nitrate, it seems safe enough.

And Mr Pedro, I wonder why that photograph is cropped...

You can decrease reaction time by increasing surface area, as well as with constant stirring, and as clean as possible precs.


Also, it is a bitch to dry, so you might have some moisture present still.

I've got a wheelchair for the really bad days. The treads are fucked up though, it needs some work. I really should do that. I don't want to be fucking and fighting with it next time I can't walk. Wheelchair repair is totally new to me though.

Well, the traditional way is to crisp it, basically toast it for a few seconds under an indirect lighter flame, but that also degrades some of the morphine. There are better ways, but I don't remember them. The only morphine I've had was ABG :) Opiophile would probably have the best answer. You could try bluelight too.

What the hell is I-amphetamine? You must be mistaking it with a lowercase L. I don't like reading about stereochemistry but from what I know dextroamphetamine and dextromethamphetamine are the active ones while their L stereoisomers aren't very active at all. Thats why Dexedrine (d-amphetamine) is more potent than Adderall (mixture of l and d-amphetamine).

I don't know if amphetamine only has 2 stereoisomers but I assume it does because you only hear about l and d-amphetamine.

Chemically the only difference between l and d-amphetamine is their 3d structure. They are 2 stereoisomers of the same molecule. The atoms are all connected in the same order but their structured differently in 3 dimensional space.

Hopefully that will explain it. As the the guy above me said, they are just stereoisomers of the (meth)amphetamine structure. The L and D notation actually refers to the direction in which they rotate plane-polarised light (but that's not really important...)

I reckon the "I" form is certainly just a misreading of the lowercase "L"

As far as I'm aware, L-amphetamine is inactive as as stimulant, but L-methamphetamine is active, but much less so the than the D-isomer - not 100% on this though....

dextro and levo refer to a type of optical isomerism, where the structures, due to functional groups cannot be superimposed. As far as I know, you always need a chiral molecule, most likely a carbon, around which functional groups cannot swap or rotate, thus locking them into their structure.

An easier example than meth would be something like 2-hydroxypropanenitrile or 2-hydroxypropanoic acid (or lactic). If you look at the structures, due to the tetrahedral nature of the molecule around the chiral carbon, you can make two arrangements, which are like mirror images of each other. Not superimposable, but optically isomeric.

That is my understanding of it anyway, it may well be simplified or entirely incorrect. I'll be buggered if I fully understand it.

Thanks for that, in my current chem course we've only seen examples containing one chiral atom. Of course, its pretty apparent that there's no reason why you wouldn't get more than one within a molecule.

That's just physical and material chemistry, which is difficult in its own right (and fascinating too, I remember reading the entire wiki on Space Elevator a few years ago, amazing) but not nearly as complex as a hundred-step procedure. It's possible to mechanize and mass-produce nanotubes, or at least it will be quite soon; making a massive molecule like Brevetoxin is just sheer madness compared to fullerenes. There's more creativity involved and it's not just sheer engineering. Not to belittle nanotubes, they are, as I said, fucking awesome, but it's just not creative enough of a process to make them as I would like, personally.

Nor-methyl, meaning it lost a methyl group. For comparison, see wiki's (nor)epinephrine. One is structurally similar to amphetamine, the other is nor-alpha-methylmethamp. ;)

As well as it being a different allotrope of carbon (which is not something you come across every day), recent(ish) work has been done on derivatising buckminsterfullerene, and creating dimers. It's also been postulated as a chaperone delivery cage.

I have dropped 25 g of Na straight into a lake once, and dear god i can tell you it was worth it! The sodium was very old and i had do use for it at the time;) Althought if you would like a ball of fire on the pool potassium is your best bet ;) I about to start chemistry at university (college for American fags i guess? ;) ) taking a pharmacology and Organic chemistry :)

At my university if you have a biochem degree you only need 9 more credits to get pre-pharm designation. They're very closely related fields, so you shouldn't have problems spreading out.

Alot of people in the class have never even done chemistry before so they're going over some of the kiddy shit before we get into organic chemistry. We haven't done any practical work in the lab yet I can't wait till we do though because I have no experience in a lab so I'm gonna get a chance to put all my theory into action.

Any of you think measuring the refractive index of a solvent or other liquid compound is a good way of determining its purity? I learned a method of measuring the refractive index of liquids in college and its dead accurate. We were told to figure out the refractive index of water in a few various sized beakers and I got an average of 1.3. The real refractive index of water is 1.33.

All it involved was dropping a pin in the beaker, clamping a pin above the beaker, placing a mirror on the rim of the beaker, aligning the image of the two pins, making sure theres no parallax then measuring. My explanation sounds complicated but its as simple as an Eskimo with downsyndrome.

Seems like a useful trick to add to my bag. It would also help one figure out what an unknown solvent may be.

Same here, a few months ago I tried shrooms for the first time. Before I did them I was getting migraines almost daily, and I've only had a couple since then. There were some other factors involved, but I really think it helped.

A'ight JP, I think I've pretty much set the formula for my upcoming neurococktail. I take what equates to a multivitamin supplement daily, so I won't be using a B supplement during the dosage. Also, since my intake of vit. C is more than a gram a day already, I won't be taking more during the L-PA dosing. I also have a few interesting/special supplements that I'll be taking along with the L-PA in order to do an overall experiment on their synergistic effects:

To be taken in the afternoon with coffee and perhaps a sandwich:
T+0: 1 gram of fish oil
100mg 5-HTP
2*65mg iron as coordinated iron sulfate (which I'm hoping to replace with an amino acid coordinate in the near future)
3*30mg Ginkgo Biloba extract (24% flavone glycosides w/ some lactones as well)
100mg 7% Panax Ginseng extract (with another 75mg of 5% later in the day). I hope to increase this eventually.
half a teaspoon of piracetam (for the first three days I'll be taking half teaspoon "attack doses" at two other points in the day and adjusting doses outside of the current time range to suit my tastes)
half a teaspoon of choline bitartrate (hopefully this will at least partially make up for the lack of a choline breakdown inhibitor)
800ug folic acid
500mg l-phenylalanine
400mg acetyl carnitine
200mg alpha lipoic acid (with another ~100mg later in the day)
100mg Coenzyme Q10 (for teh lulz)
100mg phosphatidyl serine
~200mg Niacin (with another 37.5mg as part of that supplement later in the day).
T+30: Magnesium Oxide, 500mg (with another ~100mg as the mixed citrate and oxide later in the day). This stuff is absorbed at ridiculously low rates even in stomach acid, so I thought taking an excess amount would be a good idea. Obviously I'll try it sublingually before swallowing.

Unfortunately no tomatoe leaves or huprazine this time around, though I hope to buy some of the latter later this week (if necessary, that is; I have a sneaky suspicion that I'll have enough choline in my system by that time). Anything that stands out as too dangerous to take? I also have half gram tryptophan pills laying around, but I think the 5-HTP should be enough. Any change in cognition will likely come from the piracetam and choline, so the trial is not totally empirical, but this is just playing around and seeing what overall combo gives what effects; I'll take some pills for science later. Will report subjective experience tomorrow.

Drank about 3 cups of strong coffee and a cup of lemonade along with the aforementioned things. Note to self: piracetam tastes like ass, mix it with the choline (which is sour) next time so they cancel each other out. Ate a sandwich immediately after taking the pills and now (t+~20) feel some stomach discomfort and what may very well be the beginnings of a niacin flush. Will report back later.

Same dose today, nothing so far (T+2:00). Delayed the niacin by an hour and the piracetam/choline for 45 minutes. They actually taste worse in conjunction with each other.

T+0: Typical dose, no piracetam or choline.
T+40: Pop a magnesium tablet
T+55: Niacin flush begins, no more magnesium remains, slight headache.

No noticeable effects. Will take niacin earlier next time.

Piracetam and choline are proven nootropics, most of the rest of the mix enhances the choline and parts of it are used to make dopamine. Just search phenylalanine on totse and it's the most-viewed thread.

No dosing today, will start again on monday and take the niacin (along with some of the less useful supplements) about half an hour before the rest of the mix.

Turns out I'm only taking half the phosphatidylcholine that I thought I was; and change fish oil to 1.2 grams and magnesium to 250mg (though I can double this since I have more than enough magnesium, along with some epsom salts as an alternative source if necessary). Tomorrow will double gingko and ginseng dosages. This brings both amounts to the daily "recommended" amount, though the dose is supposed to be spread out. I've also made an adjustment for my recent realization that the niacin I've been taking is "extended release":rolleyes:. T-20 minutes before dosing I'll take the niacin, then T+20 minutes after dosing I'll take the ginseng, folic acid, and magnesium. While dosing, I'll take everything else, along with a few cups of coffee and a meal (though I prefer it this way, if it's necessary to dose on an empty stomach I can change it). Piracetam and choline dosage times will continue to vary according to my schedule and how much I can stomach that taste.

Nothing noticeable from anything and I've been taking the piracetam and choline since 10-29. :( 26 days of supply left before I have to get more.

You might want to stagger your PC intake. Caffiene - or any phosphatidyldiesterase inhibitor you substitute it with, since that's what it's being used for here - just happens to prevent its breakdown into choline/acetylcholine...

Either save it for the comedown from the caff (at which time you should be at risk for rebound PDE activity - win!), or pop it a couple hours before... yeah, hours.
