Here is a SS of my Grants and such.

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/fatchad420/Untitled1.jpg

Is this how much i am getting? How much will i be getting in pocket after my classes are paid for? I ask these questions because i've had trouble filling out my fafsa due to my parents being out of the country. My school told me to call back on friday to see how much i am awarded but i looked in my account and that is what it says. My classes are about 850$ a semester, plus about 250$ for books. Does that mean after i pay for classes and books i'll be getting a check in the mail for the remaining difference, or is it the remaining difference from a specific grant (PELL grant). I know i'm getting a check come September 30th, i just don't know how much. It would be a nice late birthday gift if i got a check for 3k.

P.S. I HATE THE FAFSA

My parents had too much real estate for me to qualify for any aid. Institutional merit scholarships FTMFW.

I'm sure you could find a "what does my [insert your page here] mean?" page on the fafsa website.

Why must every college student get themselves in this situation?

I had about $1200 leftover aid my first semester of school. I kept it, thinking i was going to buy a half stack for my guitar. Turned out just keeping it so I wouldnt have to work at all my first year of college and I could jsut have that for living expenses. Yeah it was gone in one semester. So kept the leftover aid 2nd semester and pretty much did the same thing.

It's good while it lasts but think of all the money you'll have pay when you get out of school.

I'm going to tell you what i tell everyone els that lectures me about school expenses:

When it comes to school, there is no amount of money and no amount of tuition that is going to stop me from going to college. If i have to pay 1,000,000$ after i get my degree i don't care, it's just something i have to do. I plan on going to law school, i know I'm going to be in a shit ton of debt after i get out so it doesn't really matter how i choose to spend the extra cash i get now. It's college, i have to go. And besides, i could always declare bankruptcy as soon as i graduate, or i could leave the US and go to work over seas (what my dad did) and never pay back the loans.

meh ima go buy three thousand four hundred mc chickens.

You can't declare bankruptcy on student loans. Shit, you're going to law school with these kind of thoughts in mind? Choose a different fucking major, lawyers are supposed to be moderately intelligent.

And what the fuck, exactly, do you expect to do with a degree in American Law in a different country?

Well i don't plan on practicing if that's what your asking. To be honest i'm on edge as to what i want to major in, it's a tie between Law and Psychology but either way i'll probable end up teaching. Let me make this clear though, i don't "plan" on jumping ship on my loans, i have no problem paying them back, i was just trying to make a point. When it comes to money and college i don't think twice about the price because to me i HAVE to go to college and any dwelling on tuition is just going to waste my time.

why did you even borrow anything, or so much, on the stafford loans if you didn't need it? you got fucking grants, man. grants don't have to be paid back at all. you could be going completely clear and free of debt right now, but because you want extra money in your pocket to dick around with, you're going to be paying interest on that shit for years to come.

No i don't. These are not loans, i don't have to pay these back. These are federal grants that i get for FREE because of my economical status and as long as i stay in school i don't have to pay them back. Did you even go to college?

motherfucker.

stafford LOAN = a loan to be paid back at a later date. yeah you don't have to pay it back while you're in school and you probably have a subsidized one so there is no interest while you're in school. but after you quit/graduate, that money has to be paid back, and interest on it begins to accrue.

according to your chart, you took a federal stafford loan out for $2,625 this year. why take a loan you don't need? that's what i'm asking.

edit: did you even read my post before? i know you got grants and those don't have to be paid back, i wasn't even talking about that. lern2reed.

I see what your saying, but in my case (not sure if its the same situation where you are) but I talked to financial aid at my school and they said that the Stafford loan is only there if i need it, it cannot be used to pay for anything els besides classes and will not be reissued to me in the form of a check come September 30th. The only money i'm getting in had comes from grants. If i don't spend it i don't have to pay it back and since my classes are only 800$ i'm in the green. I apologize for coming off as an ass hole in my last post. If you look in the picture i supplied you can see that the loan is Red flagged and if i want it i need to counseling and apply for it.

well you have to accept the stafford loan to get it, yes. if you haven't accepted it yet online and whatnot then you don't have it and i guess that chart is just what's being offered to you. so your grants should easily cover your expenses and then you'll get the extra back in the form of a check. the theory behind that is to use it for school related expenses, like to buy supplies, pay for gas driving back and forth to school, or to buy a computer, etc. i wouldn't immediately go blow it on bullshit like it's free money because remember you're going to be going to school next year too, eh? and maybe up to four years?

i had to take out a private loan from a bank to pay for most of my first year, as well as the stafford loan of $3500 offered to freshmen. well i found out i didnt need as much as my school claimed i did for total costs and shit so i had a few thousand left over that i can now apply to my second year and i don't need a new bank loan this year at all. so i essentially got two years for the price of one.

and i know this process is confusing and frustrating because no one tells you how it works and everyone else is doing it for the first time as well. i didn't figure out how to pay for college until like two weeks before i was due to move in. luckily it doesn't take long for loans to get approved.

It took me well over 2 months for my loans to be approved. My parents work over seas and i have Power Of Attorney over their signature, so it was a loooooong process of sending/faxing/scanning and resend applications. And you know how filling out a FAFSA is, if your missing one signature or forgot to state your middle name then they send it back. Anyway, like i said earlier, i'm not worried about paying for college, school is school. And besides, a new motor cycle is an investment. I live 2 miles from TCC and 400 feet from FSU so it's the perfect economical vehicle to have for school. Not to mention the parking benefits. But i'm going to put that on hole, this semester im going to bankroll the extra 2k i have and save it til next semester, just in case something comes up.

lol. Leaving the US of A for the win.
Seriously, I truly considered this my first year of college.
Even after getting my first degree, I still considered leaving the USA.
I think the US taxes should be raised to allow free education.

I made a promise to myself that if a republican wins the election this year i'm going to leave to US as soon as possible. I've lived in Spain, Sweden, England and Portugal when i was younger and all i have i fond memories. The US is going no where but down hill. Hell, i'll even go to Canada.

The thing is, Republicans aren't what they used to be. I would o probably voted republican 50 years ago because they used to believe in small spending and small government. Now days Republicans are spending more money the the Vatican and believe in regulating everything. Its becoming a totalitarian state and we're too stupid to notice.

*neo-cons. There are still decent Republicans, this is just what happens with a 2-party system, many groups are amalgamated under the Republican banner and when a faction that's not explicitly supported by the majority takes office it reflects badly upon the rest of the people who call themselves Republicans.

the amount you get back depends on how much of it you spend, how many credits, etc.

i get back 1200-1400 a semester but it goes straight to my rent and car.

Student Tuition is good credit, dont fuck it up. if you want to buy a house anytime in your life, then pay it. In the state of florida, teachers get their student debt paid for by the state
