Try to be able to run 3-4 miles without stopping. you can work on your times at basic. overall it sucks,at times its boring, at times its fun. you wont really have fun till after basic. just suck up basic, play the game, then move on.

Thanks, are the drill instructors that bad?I've heard different thing from different people.
yes, common misconception is that D.I.s or T.Is are different in different services. They all are equally mean. An Airforce T.I. is as big a dick as an Army D.I.
Yes basic training is different for different services, but all their drill instructors are gonna tear your ass apart to nothing, then build it the way they see fit. you'll hate your drill instructor.just play the game.

Depending on your size and physical condition a mie in 1233 sucks pretty bad. I also recommend running 2-3 miles at a time to build up endurance. As for the statement that all DI's are the same that is totally a false statement. I dont onlyl say this because I was a former marine but also because I have friends in every branch of the service and have DI friends in the airforce and Navy. NOW dont get me wrong the DI's in the airforce will be complete dicks to you but it is all a game just play along but out of all the branches of the service they are the easiest DI's to deal with. Again I say this from first hand experience. If you ask your DI after graduation they will tell you the same exact thing.

Drink a lot of water and run 2 or 3 miles a day.
It's not bad at all. The thing you worry about the most is your instructor fucking with your head. Very rarely will anybody get kicked out of BMT because they did something bad. Now if you fuck around and continue to fuck around they may very well fuck your world up.
Confidence is the key. Be humble, but know damn-skippy what you're supposed to know. Be able to answer and ask questions with a degree of knowing what the fuck is up.
Study your chain of command - President of the United States all the way down to your dorm chief. Also study your ranks for both officers and enlisted.
Always try, no matter if you know you're going to fuck up or not. The fact that you made an attempt to succeed will make your TI want to put more effort into you.

1. Effective soon BMT will be 8.5 weeks.
2. When you address an MTI your reporting statement will be "Sir/Ma'am, Trainee Cocksucker reports as ordered". NEVER use the "Sir/Ma'am" sandwich. If you are addressing an MTI and another MTI joins in address them as previously mentioned.
3. Study your ranks.
4. RUN YOUR ASS OFF. Work on pushups and sit ups.
5. Plan on staying up LONG hours. Good rule of thumb to follow is wake up at 0445 and in bed at 2200 hours. Trust me, it works.
6. "Now if you fuck around and continue to fuck around they may very well fuck your world up."
Extremely true. This is often practiced
7. Go to church on Sunday mornings. It helps!
8. the MTI's can be hardasses, however, they mean nothing by it. They're turning trainees from Emo kids into Airmen/women.

For the push ups would i be better off doing weight training to prepare for that or just doing body weight exercises?

this guy speaks the truth, not only is he prior, but he seems to have friends in all the other services that are in fact DIs or TIs. amazing!!!!
anyway,
the thing about basic is you don't have to be mr. fitness going into. as long as you past your physical at MEPS, you'll be fine. they dont expect you to run a 9 min mile as soon as you arrive. you have numerous weeks to work on that. the status of how good of shape your in will just make things easier,or harder on you. i went in a heavy smoker, way out of shape, and got my ass kicked because of it. but within a few weeks i was hanging with the best of them. you'll be fine.the military basic training program isnt meant to kick out as many people as possible.it's their to take civilians and make them into airman, marines, seamen, or troops. the whole program including PT, is meant to break you down physically and mentally and build you up again.you'll be fine, just play the game.

so they make you shave off facial hair too?I didn't know that part i thought it was only the hair on your head
nope, what little facial hair the military allows you to have, you cant grow it till after training. even then your CC will have the final say.

And now for shit I've heard about in AF bootcamp, which I'd love to know if they're myth or fact:
1) You fucks get your cell phones back on Sundays
2) Vending machines the recruits can use on a daily basis
3) Its pretty much all about learning to follow orders, and thats it.
Whereas other services have to learn how to follow orders and the basics of their service. Ie in the Navy, we learn basic seamanship.

No
1) We got our phones back on graduation, no sooner.
2) Vending machines...fuck no. Maybe if you do a feat so nut-busting that your TI grants you time on the patio - maybe.
3) That's a big part of it. There's a bit more involved, and a lot more coming in. 8.5 weeks...Jesus.

this part i've heard things about. I think it depends on what flight you end up in.Some flights are hard and some are relatively easy

I thought it already went up to 8 weeks, or whatever. But yeah, it's suppose to be more weapons training. Our newest guy (I forget how long he's been back) said they got a real M16 the first day. He got recycled because he couldn't put the thing together before warrior week. When I went through, we had one full day of weapons training (I thought it was the best day, besides graduation)
But no, we don't get to use cell phones. Depending on the flight you're in, and your TI, will determine when you get to call home, and when you can buy stuff from the snack machine. When I was in basic, we didn't get our first phone call until the end of the second week. We weren't allowed to touch the snack machines until after warrior week. They also have stuff like cake in the chow hall, but that's there for the TI's. Although, if you get assigned to the 322nd TRS, I hear that they let trainees eat cake sometimes.

Not that I recall. When you get to tech school, however, you can expect to be told to do things like mattress exchange, or asked if you want to buy a microwave off of someone whose leaving (microwaves are in every dorm already).
When you're the new guy at your shop, you might be asked to get a mile of "flightline", bucket of prop-wash, or to kiss a nuclear warhead, while the guys in the shop break a chemlite over you, and tell you you've been contaminated. These things are considered hazing, and there are harsh penalties for such activities.

One are you fuckign serious he can't put together an m16? Without breaking the bolt down there are 5 parts not counting the 2 hand guards. Upper Receiver, Lower Receiver, Bolt carrier Group, Charging Handle, And Buffer Spring. Those are fucking obvious as hell on how to put back together. Then the Bolt Carrier Group can be broke down into 5 parts. The Bolt, The Bolt Carrier, The Bolt Pin, Firing pin, and finally the Firing Pin Securing Pun. Then the bolt can be further broken down but you will never do that only an armorer will. Took me one show through to pull the bitch apart and back together?
You guys get a phone call home, after two weeks? We get one when we first get there but we have to read a message by the phone. And i got one for winning the rifle range, other then that you can use the pay phone on Sunday libo.(The last Sunday before graduation) And got help the recruit that uses a vending machine. We get some cake or desert but that is because when you are eating a pound of food after every meal, leaving hungry, and still loosing weight. You need every calorie you can get.

idk, theres pt that inlcudes a bunch of shit + running, but thats it. yeah, you will need a degree to go to OTS

when i went through basic it was the same thing. about 1.5-2 weeks in we got to call home, but pretty much had a canned message we read. then by the last week we had base liberty a few times and got to use the phone a little more. i never got cake or any type of sweets for that matter. we used to steal a handful of peanut butter packs to sneak later after lights out.

in ft leonard wood for army boot camp we would get our phones for 20 minutes on sundays. when i was nso'd to a new company, we got our cell phones for 20 minutes on sundays in red phase, 40 for the first week of white, and then it was like 1-3 hours the rest of the time. and of course we had our "free day away", where we got our phones all day.

I guess it depends on the Branch what squad/flight you are in and your DI/TI

good rule of thumb is don't expect anything, if you get any type of privileged then bonus.
