First off, I am an aetheist. I do not believe that there is a god however I do believe there was Jesus but he wasn't holy or could heal people.

I went to a catholic school growing up, because of where I lived I had to. But that doesn't make me Catholic. We had pictures of Jesus on the cross and statues of him. He was pictured being white. All the people around him were white. There is now way that he was white. His parents had lived in the middle east all their lives and now they have a child. Plain and simple Jesus wasn't white. His parents were also Jewish he did not have blue eyes either. Most likely he was oily dark skinned and had black or brown eyes. Also Catholics picture god as being white. Now if the Catholics depict everything about their religon according to themselves don't you think it was a little made up? That's what made me aetheist. Thats not the point though, I'm saying that according to the facts Jesus wasn't white.

It's also a little ironic that Jesus in real life, not the bible, would look like a terrorist to us Americans. Face it Catholics your savior is who your at war with right now. I bet that if Jesus really came back to judge us then the U.S. Army would probably arrest him then torture him. Who knows maybe thats already happened and since then according to the bible were all doomed for the "apocalypse". It must suck to be catholic right about now haha. Thats my opinion.:(

First off it's atheist, not aetheist.

Not all pictures have Jesus being really white skinned. Granted he isn't extremely dark, but not everyone is. A lot of Jesus pictures have him with blue eyes.

Christianity didn't start with Catholicism either, dipshit.

It's also a little assuming that all americans think middle-easterners are terrorists. The majority of terrorists are muslims, not jews. The image of Jesus is largely circulated, I would hope the majority of people wouldn't mistake him for a member of Al Qaeda.

I'm agnostic myself, so don't mistake me for an annoying bible-thumper, but you're a moron.

Didnt the christian church start out as the catholic church?

The CHURCH, yes.

And anyway, yeah I hate to see white depictions of a well-groomed Jesus with beautiful flowing hair, it is simply ridiculous.

Basically, if there was a real photograph of Jesus floating around, he would look like the man working at your nearest convenience store in a robe with some unwashed hair and a nasty ass beard.

He's depicted as white so his image won't frighten young children..

You'd think the son of god, able to arise from the dead, or any other whim of unimaginable power. Can't even wash his hair, or keep his beard straight?

You also think that people who aren't white, freighten children? Do you mean to say that if you took a small child down the street and he saw an asian/black/muslim/ect. they would shriek in horror and hide? Don't make broad assumptions about things you don't understand.

Fucking false.

For one "terrorist" is subjective. Does a "terrorist" think he or she is a terrorist? I doubt. The IRA sure as hell didn't think so. The way America fought for independence is quite "terrorist" in nature. Call it guerilla warfare, call it whatever you want. Terrorist has become the new word for enemy.

A jewish murderer is a commando.
A muslim commando is a terrorist.

other than that. The post was full of win :D

My dad is very, very religious. He's read the bible 3+ times and has taught college classes in the history of religion. I think he'd be crushed if I told him I wasn't christian, so I don't tell him. Why hurt the ones you love?

Yes, I agree with this. The Romans were mostly white and they popularized Christianity, so one can assume that they would depict him as white. Jesus was born in the Middle East, so he was most likely dark skinned.

People like to see what makes them comfortable. Since the Catholic church started in Rome they depicted Jesus as white because that's what they were used to. If you go to the Bahamas you will see that in most of the churches down there Jesus is black. People try to make it as comfortable as possible for themselves and imagining your savior as being of your own race helps with that. Most Christians that I know fully realize that Jesus was not a white guy.

and all the while i depicted religious figureheads as this

http://www.venganza.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/lordoallfcreation.png

also having jesus as a WASP makes the christian churches job so much easier. "u always fear what you dont understand" and white people in gerneral dont understand other ethnicities at all.

they would rather followers fear: Hell, death, Apocolyspe, rapture and bill donohue rather then the ICON of the religion itself.

assuming religion is an example of self- projecting (WE are created in HIS image). Then god, and his son, would look like [insert readers name]

otherwise we would all look the same, little clones of god

The funny thing about it is..he had to be one color or another. weather it was white, black, brown, yellow..etc etc...Now try picturing God having a color and a race.... that always gets me :D

No, but scary ungroomed people do. And what makes god want washed hair and a nice beard? He shouldn't have human preference, he really is a human imposter.

Jesus was first described as having an animal head when he was the sun god Horus. Describing him as jewish, isn't exactly correct either.

I would disagree that Jesus would have been white just because he was jewish. Back then people were outside more working, and not to mention that Jesus gave a lot of his sermons outside. They were in a deserty area too. It would stand to reason that Jesus was very tanned.

depends what you mean by very tan

I would think that he would have a more typical Middle eastern look. He would have been spending more time outside than people today, walking around and such.

Jesus was not real. He is a fairy tale. He is a fairy tale that has been told for longer than most Christians feel comfortable with.

Jesus used to be called Horus and was the Egyptian sun god, long before Rome decided to create a religion to control peasants, as a last ditch effort to save a collapsing empire.

Jesus has more in common with captain crunch than he does actual humans. So debating whether or not he was black, white or yellow, is about as useful as debating what color best describes Oscar the grouch's furry coat...forest green, shit fly green, or just plain 'ol green.

Have at you!

You know Jewish, is an adjective, right?

Look at Jerusalem, the average citizen doesn't look white and that's where Jesus was born 2000 years ago. The Jews at the time were as dark as the citizens of Israel now.

Yeah adjective for religion and race. Sorry my poor writing.

Anyways the average Israeli citizen is white. Also Jerusalem is not where Jesus was born 2000 years ago, he was born in Bethlehem. So I'm gonna assume you don't much about the Bible and suggest you read it.

Jesus could have been white.

He was the son of an all powerful being.

The dude could bring back the dead and walk on water. I am sure changing his skin color was nothing more than a cantrip by comparison.

Jesus was white, b/c he wanted to be white. He knew that many of his followers would be racist, so he decided to make himself white so he could appeal to the future country of America better.

He wanted to appeal to Americans almost 2000 years after his death so America would feel obligated to help Israel during WWII and deliver unto them the promised land fulfulling the prophecy of his father.

Jesus made himself white, so he would be easier to believe for the western world.

Done.

I've seen a statue of an asian jesus and a picture of a black jesus, what happens is each race seems to depict jesus as if he were a member of they're race. Despite the fact he was a (probably ugly) hebrew.

You know that the majority of Jews are Germanic in origin? The original Hebrew people were a very different and darker group of people.
