Sport: an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess. with competition

According to the definition, I would say yes.

So Dance Dance Revolution (and its clones, what the fuck ever) would be the only game that would qualify. Because Madden 09 sure isn't an athletic activity.

Chess takes no athletic ability and is considered a sport.

Not by the definition in your first post.

Then why did you post this:

Sport: an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess.

According to the definition, I would say yes.

Is it competitive?

Then cool.

But as a society we view sports as sports, physical competitions, tests of endurance of the body.

And we regard those activities highly.

Also of importance are academic competitions, billiards competitions, chess competitions, competitions of skill and dexterity. Also regarded highly, maybe not so much as sports, but still, important.

But I wouldn't regard video games like Counterstrike and things as sports. Require mental acuity? Maybe, physical dexterity? Sure.

But they're not really athletic sports. We have competitions for video games, with prize money and all sorts of things. So that should be good enough.

But unlike video games
Eating junk food and smoking weed until your eyes are bloodshot that they look like they are bleeding is not encouraged

intelligence and strategy are highly encouraged to play chess

actually those fucking dance revolution games should count as they take a lot of skill

I think the definition given in the starting post needs to be amended to include competition.
