hey DIY, ive been lurking here and theres been some awesome ideas. I remember a couple of months ago everyone here was making threads about building houses out of shipping containers, and theres been some killer ideas about making engines, and dodgy ghetto ways of fixing things on your land. wheres all the revolutionary ideas that your girlfriends laugh at you for for thinking of it while everyone in this forum applauds your craziness.
so thus i leave you with these two ideas
first one is pretty basic, attaching trailer wheels to a shipping container turning it into the most ghetto caravan/trailer ever, doesn't seem plausible due to the fact that on a caravan the wheels are inside the wheel arc rather then poking outside while if you weld on tyres to a shipping container its width may push it out of legal limits
and secondary im putting this stupid idea because it would be fkn awesome if it worked, i dare anyone to give it a try and see if it actually works, don't flame me for putting it here i know it wont work but even if it makes really crappy 2 mm big gemstones I'm curious to see what happens without risking my own microwave

making diamonds in the microwave out of briquettes and peanut butter, basics is carbon gets turned into diamonds with enough pressure and heat and the briquetes are completely carbon (charcoal) and i guess the peanut butter is mostly carbons but not as much as the charcoal, so it cooks quicker to get rid of the other shit in it.

We still have them...
For example, i want to build a fish tank in the roof of my room and put luminous fish in so i ccan see them while im laying asleep looking up in my bed.
More to come...
Why not just mount the wheels under the trailer just like how they normally are?
and regarding making diamonds in the microwave; ambiguous troll is ambiguous...(?)

That youtube thing is probably fake. A lot of the "cool tricks" on youtube are just camera tricks. Look up "mountain dew glow in the dark." That one's fake too.
Anyways, DIY is a bit dead as of late because many of us are getting ready to go back to school, and thus have to put our projects on hold :( but once we get that shit figured out (say mid-september or so), DIY will be alive and kickin'.

And p.s.:
About the shipping container on wheels: It'd be much easier to buy a gutted trailer. You can get really sleek looking airstream trailer (gutted of course, and probably a missing window or two) for under $1000 if you are lucky.
The width of the shipping container should be no problem - after all how would they transport them on truck. I think the maximum width is 8'6" nationally.
As for the peanut butter diamonds I have a spare old microwave so I'll post results if it works. I really doubt it though. Diamonds are created by graphite undergoing metamorphism. Some artificial diamonds nowadays are constructed chemically. I don't know how that works, but maybe just maybe that is how this thing works. Chances are it makes a tiny clear hard object that is not a diamond.

there has been some good comments here, you DIY'ers are good folk, lookin forward to when things have settled down in everyones lives after school break, i like the idea with the massive fishtank below the roof, although glass is hell as expensive and if you plan on using acrylic its not really much cheaper, i always wanted to build my own computer case completely out of acrylic but then i looked at the prices.
sentinal good idea with the airstreams, but there not as popular down under (meaning i cant find any on ebay nor tradingpost) cheapest heap of shit caravan i saw was around the 3k mark

which sucks
and slp i look forward to seeing your findings if you do it lol, even if it makes a pretty gemstone could fool some people (thai gem anyone?)

It won't make any gemstones. It'll creat some dark brown shit, that's all. The difference between graphite and diamonds isn't some wierd magical mumbo jumbo, it's the way that molecules are arranged. And yeah, it takes shitloads of pressure and temperature to change it. Wiring a dozen microwaves in a series to produce the heat and using some heavy duty mexican car lifts to create pressure won't work. Just think about it...
But nice idea about the trailer.
Also, what about diy power sources? I mean stuff from powering your AAA charger, cellphone (solar panels, water wheels, small wind farms) to powering your laptop (~70 watts). Or maybe creating ghetto walkie-talkies with huge range? Or some kinds of fm or gsm (or the other thingy they use in the US) jammers?

on a related note, when some carbon-containing high explosives are detonated, it creates diamonds approximately 4nm (yes, nanometres) in length. Pretty cool.

In the high temperature/pressure devices they use for making artifical diamonds, it's been found that just about any material high in carbon works as a raw material. Yes, I've even heard of cases where peanut butter was used.

That'd be pretty cool to have.

I saw a dude who made a ceramic teapot out of his dads ashes because he always loved drinking tea with him and wanted to still have him around.
And I want to make an aquaculture set up with yellow perch and my turtles connected up to a greenhouse of veggies, but that'll have to wait until I have a house. But I'll totally post it here when it happens! :D
And I want to make an aquaculture set up with yellow perch and my turtles connected up to a greenhouse of veggies, but that'll have to wait until I have a house. But I'll totally post it here when it happens! :DForgive me for not remembering, but were you the one with the thread about making a 'living' filter for your turtles using zebra mussels? If so, did anything ever come of that? Or did you at least learn anything?
