i'm turning 20 soon and in college. a lot of the clothes i have are from high school and are just random baggy trash that i picked up along the way because they were comfortable. jeans, t shirts, and some crappy worn out button up shirts.

now i want to dress nicer but avoid a) spending way too much on clothes, b) dressing like i'm 40 and c) dressing like i'm some preppy toolbag. i say this because it seems like the only nice shirts that exist for young men are polos. but all the guys my age that i know that wear polos are american eagle collar poppin, gel haired fags. (not actually homosexual, but you know what i mean). i like button up shirts but it seems like those shouldn't be worn all the time (see point b).

so what's a fella to do?

Plain tight fitting t-shirts, out of nice materials or get nice polos, not AE ones, but like simple ones without logo's.

A tighter fit is definitely the way to make a simple tshirt and jeans more age appropriate.

well if u want to shop cheap go to marshals or tj max.. most of their stuff is crap... but you can make good finds on name brand stuff.

its a hell of alot better then paying 25 fucking bucks for a t shirt at AE

Good ol' TK Maxx (UK name...same store) for finding bargins.

Ben Sherman have a lot of nice button up shirts that don't break the bank.

well i wasn't asking about stores to shop at...there are plenty of places. too many places in fact. i was asking more about what style and type of clothes to wear.

i was cleaning out my closet and dresser yesterday and found a bunch of old t shirts, some plain and some 'Nike" or "Adidas" ones that weren't too bad. i guess in my high school days i had deemed them "too small" because they weren't baggin' off me. in a roundabout way they fit fine now even though i haven't lost any weight, haha.

so i almost went clothes shopping because i was thinking i didn't have anything and it turns out i have a ton of t shirts. but the idea of polos is still so gay to me.

wearing clothes that actually fit, not just are comfortable, baggy, etc, was something that i had to learn to. i guess basically go through your old clothes & get rid of stuff that is old/worn/too big so all the clothes you do have is generally nice (but i guess you already did that). as far as what to wear, if i'm trying to dress nice i usually wear like a white long sleeve dress shirt without a jacket or anything and like cargo pants/slacks/jeans (basic pants) that i always wore. shirts like that aren't too terribly exspensive & look better than your average button up shirt but aren't that hard to pull off/give you that "i'm really going for a trendy snazzy look here."

i'm really not all that into fashion or what not (& i guess you aren't either), so i don't know if you really want to listen to me. oh, and yeah, fuck american eagle and aeropostal and all that shit, its over priced, poorly made (in sweatshops) and make you look like a douche.

I'm in college and I have a pretty standard style that is classy in its own right and at the same time not in any way ostentatious...

I usually wear standard fitting jeans, and long sleave plain colored shirts. grey looks nice. for footwear, i often wear a pair of sperrys, but i won't lie i do get made fun of occasionally. i also own a pair of white nikes, that works too.

it's simple, it's classy, and best of all i don't have to walk around with a stupid name brand on my shirt.
