View Full Version : What do cops see when they put your licence plate into their copmuter
for example, if my car is registered under my dads name and i got a DUI, would that show up if they get behind me type and put my plates into their computer.
i know that was confusing but i cant figure out how to put it.

I don't know what the second half of your sentence is saying, but the DUI will stick to you regardless of what vehicle you drive.
The database would show who it's registered to (among other things), but I'm also assuming they ID'd you when they pulled you over so it'd be on your record.
Reasoning it out, there's two sets of information that seem likely to come up. One, the information on your dad's car, including the owner, registry, insurance, vehicle record and all that.
Two, the information from when they run the name on your ID, like your personal record and the rest of it.

i got told (prob a rumor) but when a cop is driving behind you he has a tiny scanner in the front of his car..it reads your license plate and beeps if you have a DUI/Any reason to be of concern...for example if you were driving your dads car and he had a record of drink driving, you would get pulled over and breath tested as they believe you have a history of it...
thats what i was told in sydney Australia, from a friend who knew a cop..

How would a scanner like that even work? identify your license plate and all... I highly doubt that's true.

Good concept. Does everything it should be doing. They should have those on every highway sign.
Proof of concept, and final product.
LETS GET THIS SHIT ROLLING DAMN IT!

The dashboard camera or the officer's eyes. Then he plugs in the numbers into his computer that fetches info from the database.
But yeah, I don't really see the point of having some sort of sensor tag on a license plate. If the officer can't read your plate, you're getting pulled over anyway for a violation, which is why drivers must have a licence plate in the appropriate areas, VISIBLE, and lit up at night.
Although I could see it being used in identifying a vehicle at night when it refuses to be pulled over.

Ohio takes the low-tech route. DUIs earn you a nice, bright yellow and red license plate. You can see these things from a mile away.
And to the OP, when a cop runs a license, everything that has to do with that particular plate comes up. So, if you got your DUI in that car, even though it is registered to your dad, it would come up.
My buddy had a cop fuck with him and a coworker when they were driving a work van because he ran the plate and an outstanding warrant came back to someone who used to work for the company that got a speeding ticket in that van. So they were pulled over and had to jump through a few hoops before the cop was satisfied and let them go.
Hope that helps answer your question.
