so, im a junior in highschool with an interest in chem, less into the mathematical equations, and more into the hands on lab stuff. i think its fun shit to walk around controlling reactions and temps trying to make a final product. i just wanna know what books i could get at the library for beginner chemistry, and links for some simple pyschoactive chem synths

edit: shit how could i forget, can someone give me a hint as to what types of glass i might need, just to start off with?

Organic Chem Lab Survival Manual, find it on Amazon. Exactly what you are looking for - exactly. No equations, just lab work.

Distillation unit; depending on what country you live in depends on what size ground glass joints you would want. 24/40 standard U.S. size. Distillation unit is the #1 - very first - piece of true laboratory equipment you get for the organic lab, IMHO. It would include: Larger distillation flask (say 1 liter), smaller receiving flask (say 500ml), 3-way distillation adapter ("distilling head") - with or without thermometer connection. In case of non-thermometer connection, one must buy a thermometer adapter along with a thermometer. A vacuum adapter, and a condenser. Buy it as a kit; it will be cheaper. Compliment it with a separatory funnel (you need one anyway) that has a 24/40 connection, along with a Claisen adapter so you can adapt the separatory funnel to the distillation unit, among other variations.

But yeah. . . Distillation kit; everything else will grow from there.

EDIT: No simple psychoactive synths. Study chemistry as a science; not as a means to get outside of your head. We need less "cooks" in the world and more legitimate researchers. IMHO. Chemistry is much more rewarding, anyway.

I would recommend a 14/23 or 19/26 if your in Europe :) Its a nice handy size, small but big enough to do many things :)

As for reading there is an identical thread to this one, telling the poster about what to start with  UTFSE

Enough nice ground glass for a distillation set up, a few flasks, a few beakers, a thermometer, a filter funnel and feckloads of filter paper.

19/26 is my preferred size, 14/23 is a teeny bit small for my preferences.

And yes there are multiple threads on 'what do ah reed', and multiple threads on 'what do ah need'.

Good luck etc :)

Like they said, use the search function.
