Typifying the Hessian of today is the denim vest, perhaps pierced carefully with an array of spikes, almost surely covered with patches identifying favorite bands for other metalheads to admire. Uniformly, these vests are black. This is important.

I then, was surprised, after purchasing a fine jacket from Goodwill and two packets of some "iDye" and following the procedure to a 't'- to have a nicely purpled jacket. The dye claims to work on cotton, I let it set for an hour the first time, and then overnight after that failed (the packet says 30 minutes). I did remember to add a cup of salt each time- I guess this increases the polarity of the solution aiding the dye in depositing itself onto the fabric.

So fellow metalheads, or fabric enthusiasts of totse help me, how did you do it?

You should have washed it first. Used less water. Used more dye. Used a better brand of dye.

And convince your friends that purple is the new black.

Or you could have bleached it first. That would wear it out, but metal heads don't like brand-new aparel, do they?

yup, bleaching would have helped. All I can think is, keep trying. This happened with washer friendly brown dye, making boyfriends old stained shirt wearable again. Sadly, salmon is not the new brown.
