Go ahead and call my wishes unattainable, but here they are:

I want to be the lead engineer/designer for the Chevrolet Corvette or some other European exotic car. What would be the best way to go about this?

To the moderator, if this is too vague to be a proper topic, let me know and I will try to add some more material. Thanks.

hey where you at in ohio, op?

i believe argonplasma2000 either works for, or plans on it after graduating, GM as a programmer or engineer of some type. seems like mechanical engineering would be what you'd want to go into, though i don't know for sure. are you in college already or what?

I'm on Columbus, going to Columbus State Community College for the first year this year. I'm an undecided, taking a bunch of classes that I can transfer to OSU.

If you're being serious, that'd be a nice thing to do. Thanks.

oh, hey i go to OSU now. apparently those CSCC classes transfer easily. good luck, engineering is too damn hard for my tastes.

Do you want to work as an engineer or as a designer? They aren't the same thing.

Interesting question, I didn't realize that. I will have to figure out the difference between the two to answer that one. What exactly is the difference? The designer figures out the basic pieces to use, while the engineer figures out how to make them work together without breaking?

i think a designer is more of an artistic thing, like designing how the interior and exterior of the car look. the engineer deals with more technical aspects, like uhhh....creating a motor that is small enough to fit in the ceiling and open the sunroof in the ways the designer wanted. that's not a great example and i can't think of one right now.

In that case, I'd want to be the engineer.

Then you want to go after an engineering degree and focus on the automotive industry; perhaps go after an Automotive Engineering degree.

Like Euda said automotive engineering would probably be the best if your specific goal is to work in the automotive industry. If wherever you go to school doesn't offer automotive engineering though, then mechanical engineering would probably be your best bet. Plus, mech. eng. has the advantage that if you can't get a job in the auto industry right away, there's many other opportunities besides the auto industry with a degree in mech. eng.

but to be the head you'd have to be either really ingenious in some way and prove it by making some design that'll make people shit themselves in amazement or just be the best in the field.
