How can presidents believe in religion? is it a method of control, you think, or perhaps politicians just have to say they believe in Jesus, or they won't be voted for. How can billions be wrong?

How can they? I don't know, roughly 88% of the U.S. does. Many smart people do as well, so they are just the average american in that regard.
Yes, in the U.S. atleast. I really can't imagine a non-christian getting elected anytime in the near future. Maybe a Jewish candidate...definitely not a muslim or anyone that is non-religious.
How can billions be wrong? I'm not sure if you mean for the religious or non-religious.

Actually, the Bible itself says billions will get it wrong. How can billions get it wrong? It's called mental retardation. If you are really smart, you'll start to notice that most of this world is about as smart as a sack of shit. Since most people are retarded, they can't read a simple book and interpret the message clearly. Then with their stupid interpretations they recruit other idiots who think similar stupid interpretations. Soon the following is huge. Since they all believe the same thing, they assume they must be right about their beliefs, and anyone smart enough to disagree is chastised for believing something different. They are chastised because most people have an inferiority complex which is fixed by being part of a gang, and smart people would destroy that bond, so they are quickly ridiculed to preserve the mobs integrity.
Then the smart people got together and came up with a clever plan. The plan is to pretend to be one of the retards and integrate, while simultaneously knowing of the true reality of things. Slowly these smart men used their brains to manipulate themselves to the top of the ladder and become president. Of course, the president still maintains that it was God the whole way, when he really just dooped you all into thinking he was one of you, and now he acts in his own accord with your blessing.
Eventually the bible prophecy will come true. One of these men will doop you so well that he'll become ruler of the world and declare himself emperor with your blessing once again. Of course, this won't last long as reality of this empire will start to sink in. Then a man will appear. A very smart man, a man that was once chastised, but will have the ears of all those who come into ear shot. He'll lay a simple truth on the men of earth, and it will spread like wildfire. The message will be very simple and clear.
Peace comes from love, not control. He'll explain how Jesus wasn't the Son of God, but a son of God just like the rest of us sons and daughters. He'll also go on to explain that God isn't a being that controls things but a metaphor for the living, functioning universe, that contains all possibilities of life and knowledge. It's omni power comes from the building block we call energy. Really it's an energy field that has mathematical limitations, which means it determines all things that are existence. You cannot defy this energy, only live within it's limitations, making it omnipotent.
This is the truth of the universe. You can accept it or deny it, but it will still remain truth. Of course, I have little faith in the world listening to me today, because you're all wrapped up in power, control, and being right, but rarely righteous. Most of you deserve the penalty for ignorance, but I know it's very easy for everyone to fall into the trap and become a follower, instead of breaking away and following your own path. It's a pitty that humanity needs to face such a desolation to understand the truth, but man was always weak, which is why they follow the strong even to the wrong ends.

In order to get elected, politicians have to pander to the lowest common denominator. The average voter is a fucking moron.
Politicians who tell the truth do not have a chance of being elected.

This.
Except in America even the intelligent people believe in religion so its not even just the lowest common denominator...
Religion in this country just make me angry.

I always just wonder though, I'm sure Bill Clinton couldn't of been a Christian, too smart.
And I wonder about Obama. McCains ass probably has the wool over his eyes too.

I can only speak of the U.S., but level of intelligence or education doesn't make a HUGE difference on whether or not someone is religious. Yes, there is a good size difference between those with only high school diplomas and PHDs that are religious, but it is maybe 10% from what I've read. So...even those with PHDs OVERWHELMINGLY are religious or atleast believe in a god. I think the only area where there may be a significant difference is in science.

I think overall there are a lot more atheists out there than there are atheists willing to admit their lack of belief. Especially in the US, atheist is a dirty word. Many people assume that atheists lack morals, are criminals, or they are possessed by daemons. So there is good cause to lie about your beliefs, or lack thereof. My fiance's dad is a closet atheist. He's an electrical engineer. He pretends to his wife, children, all of his co-workers, and of course the church congregation. Then he gets in a car with me and the whole act drops and we talk about how the world really is.

I wish I had a family member like that who I could talk to. I can only vent off on the internet. I have no idea how anyone will react if I told them I was Atheist.
It sucks being in the closet.

religion has become so politicized in the US but the funny thing is the forefathers tried to keep god as far away from the state as possible. george bush did everything he could to destroy that line, which he practically has.
people were afraid to vote for JFK cause he was catholic, and as the WASP's thought, the catholics follow the pope and they didnt want that. people have made religion a perversion of what its really supposed to be

Maine is part of the Bible toting movement. If you even say one word against religion like I did one day you are forced to see a shrink. (They claimed that I infringed upon the civil liberties of the students around me when I denounced religion and made a case that religion was the source of most if not all problems in the world.)
I guess the act of ostracizing me from everyone and making me see a shrink isn't infringing on civil liberties.
P.S. This happened in Debate club where the topic of "What is the World's Worst Issue. Myself and two other peope all promoted religion while the other people promoted either one of the following three: Racism (How whites are slowly being stripped away their rights,) Disease (AIDs, STDs, Niggers, etc....) or Government. Yeah I and the two other guys get fucked by the school versus the guys promoting white power. Makes a lot of sense to me.

Seneca said something great about this:
Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful.
