in my house there are two different lights that worked a few years ago but don't work now and i want to fix them. How would i start?Replacing the breakers? checking the light switch itself{both of them are light switches}.Or checking the wiring?
are the bulbs burned out?
check to see if you have voltage at the fixture and if you dont begin back tracking and see if you have voltage at the switch. track it all the way back to the breaker panel. you could have a broken wire somewhere or just a bad breaker. are both lights on the same circuit? If other things on that circuit work and just the light is dead then its probably either bad wiring inside the fixture or a bad switch.

How many DIY posters does it take to change a lightbulb....
6
One to remove the light bulb with his new light bulb removing tool. One to decide which light bulb is the best to replace the other burnt out light bulb. One to decide the best way to mod the light bulb for optimum use. One to improve the light bulb removal tool so that it can be used for installing the new improved light bulb. One to suggest that the light switch should first be checked to see that it is in the on position? One to flip the light switch on.

Seven. One to cut open the burnt out light bulb, and make a slave flasher (http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/7208/flasher3tm2.jpg) out of it.

it was just a light bulb change but what happened was those lights had not worked for years and the handyman of the house said he had checked the light bulbs first so i asked him to do it again and they came on without a hitch
