Howdy,
Never really had a need of this forum before but I need to replace my old jacket.
Only thing is everywhere on the net seems to sell via the Sizing method and having just moved I'm buggered if i know where a measuring tape is.
So I'm kinda hoping someone could give me a rough estimate on what 'Medium' in jacket sizing is.
The closest estimate I think I've come to is 42 but I want to get that right.
Thanks folks.
I work in the formalwear industry and often arrange my company's store displays. We have the option of using two different shirt sizes on display mannequins, either M-3 or M-5, both of which fit a 40 regular suit jacket with 2" inseam sleeves.
You'll probably fit a 40 or 42 regular suit jacket, unless of course you have shorter or longer arms, in which case you'll want - you guessed it! A 40 or 42 short or long.
In either of those cases you could also purchase a regular sizing and have the sleeves taken up or down.

The sizing around the chest is 4" bigger than the size of the chest of the person wearing it.
So if you have a jacket that is 42" around the chest, it will be made for someone who is a size 38.
It's to allow space for the chest for either inhaled or exhaled.

What happens if you need something 42 around the chest but 50 in the shoulders and long in the arms?

...although sometimes the shame will rear it's ugly head anyway...
