i love writing, i LOVE it. its fun, a release, and im looking to exploit what i love (writing and sports) and make money off of it. im mainly looking to try and write on snowboarding as i live in colorado where the snow is tastier and lasts longer every year. is there anyone on totse currently writing for a living? what sort of classes should i take in college to possibly set me up for this? is there anything else i can do?
thanks in advance.

I have friends that write for various sports magazines. It takes dedication and passion. Do you know the people involved in your local sporting community?

Journalism and writing courses are a good idea, though they aren't key. Your articles should, generally, be written at a fourth grade level. Find someone young to read over your writing; if they can't understand your article, then you should try to lower the vocabulary level.

Find the people that you want to be printing your articles and get to know them. Submit your works as often as you can manage.

If you can't find someone to publish or print your articles, start writing letters to newspapers - so that you can at least get a start on being in print.

try to major in either Journalism or Sports Communication. The best idea would be to major in one and Minor in the other. if you already have the passion, after you graduate you will have the qualification. Also when in school try to get an internship at some type of sports magazine or sports related show or television network.

Get out there. Get involved. Hit up the board shops around town and talk to people, get to know the local community. People have to be doing something while there's no snow on the ground.

Communications is a good major if you would like to go into writing. I have a friend (communications major) who started writing sports columns for a major Philadelphia newspaper (after an internship and his graduation). Obviously getting job experience in the field is what you should be looking for.

It depends on the level of the particular program. However I do think the communications major would probably much more widely accepted than the sports com. My school has a whole host of the sports related majors, and they don't seem to be very encompassing. Also I think a communications major will definitely improve your writing skills much more than the sports one, IMO.
