View Full Version : Is it inapropriet to always wear a colared shirt?

I'm 17, almost 18. Senior in highschool (independent study 1 hour a week). Spend alot of time w/ GF. Work 20-30 hours a week. Use a good bit of medium to hard drugs. I am in really good shape. Don't spend enough time w/ the guys. Most guy time is w/ drug buddies. If drug dealing was based on a 10 star system 5 being making 1000 dollars a week 1 being making 10 dollars a week, I used to be at a 2.5 now I'm at a 1, sometimes 1.5... so basically a drug user who tries to make his money back, doesn't know enough people who likes the drugs he uses and usually uses all of them anyways.

I wear a colared shirt all the time.

If it is too hot, I will wear a $80 retail (although I only purchase on sale) polo like Ralph Lauren. At night times I mostly wear really nice designer button down colared shirts (Think ROAR) which is worth $150+. Most of the really nice colared shirts I wear are stolen but I tell people I buy them.

I have a feeling this is a bit inapropriet.

One time I was playing poker w/ all my guy friends (not drug buddies) and I was the only one who had a colared shirt. Although no one said anything, nor did anyone give me weird looks at my shirt, I kept feeling like this just wasn't chill. Not like a faggot but just like an asshole kind of thing. Like stuck up wanna be rich kid (I used to be rich, parents lost all their money, everyone knows this).

I am also more introverted (see: shy) and tend to keep to myself especially in large groups. I think this also comes off as superiority (Wearing a colared shirt and not wanting to mingle w/ those wearing tees)

I'm probally over analyzing it.

I have been doing this for the past year so it is nothing new. Everyone who knows me knows that I always wear shirts like this. All the time. Everyonce in a while people will make a comment but it is never talking shit. I think I appear confident in them so people don't mind it.

Well, there is such a thing as "dressing for the occasion".

But really, no big deal. Wear what you like, as long as your not flaunting your labels or anything. And hey, maybe it'll encourage your buddies to dress a little classier too.

If it makes you so self-conscious, dress down every once in a while. You can still look like money without collars.

Oh please, a collared shirt under a jumper is the Melbourne Grammar look.

That is, super conservative.

This guy I used to be friends with always used to wear fancy colored shirts and me and my buddy used to make fun of him behind his back because every time we would go to his house to pick him up just to smoke a bowl or something he would take like 15 min to come outside, and when he finally got outside he looked like he was going to the club or some shit and we would laugh at him. He would spend so much time picking out his shoes, belt, cuff links, it was fucking ridiculous. He had a bunch of different head sets for his razor and he would always have a different ear piece, white alligator shoes with a white belt, white skin tight leather gloves and we might just be going to the pub to shoot some pool.

If you guys want I'll post a picture of him.

I guess it depends on who your friends are and how old you are. You're over analyzing it a lot, ask some lady friends if they think you look nice, as long as you take care of your appearance it should be fine. Throw some tees into your wardrobe anyway though.

You aren't a faggot unless you're constantly pointing out the brand you're wearing. Nobody likes people like that.

I really wouldn't worry about it man, it sounds like you're just a bit self-conscious but it's not a big deal at all. It's just what you're comfortable in. Me, I wear plain black or gray tees most of the time just because I'm in college and usually don't shower before class so don't really care about my looks in the morning beyond basic hygiene.

It's really no one's place but your own to decide what you should wear.....

You got the logic right there...you hanging with drug buddies. They dont care about looking nice, look at pot heads/stoners/hippies, they dress like they just pulled some clothes out of a dumpster. I wear a polo of some sort almost everyday to work, polos/button downs to school. Rarely wear regular t shirts, mainly cause they are not work appropriate(got school after work, not changing) or dont fit. Gotta buy some new threads here.

Yeah, it's fine. Some people give you flak for it, at least you don't look like a douche.

And if you get in sale that's even better.

Alright here's a pic off his facebook. He was a lot more metro before high school. But after I ditched him he lost a lot of self esteem and started dressing down a little, this is just before I stopped being friends with him. Heres a picture I took of him posing beside his neighbors car. He said it's alright for me to post this, btw.

Notice how his beige undershirt matches the beige of his jacket. That's the type'a shit I'm talking about.

I used to do something similar. I always made sure I wore very nice clothes, everywhere I went. No one cared, and eventually everyone realized it was my signature thing. But I stopped doing it when the time would come for EVERYONE to dress up. People would be like "WOW, so-and-so, you look SOO AMAZING! Oh, hey Kee. The usual?"

It took the fun out of dressing up. Plus, I realized that girls love a man in casual clothes every once in a while. It makes you look a little eoh mah gawd metro if you're always dressed up.

Had a friend do the same damn thing; another friend and I would swing by his house to pick him up just to go back to my other friend's place to smoke some blunts or drink or whatever, and this guy would make us wait and then come out in an all-matching outfit; hat, shoes, shirt, everything. Always had new hats/shoes, too, the kind where he'd keep the bill flat and not pull the label off.

His excuse was "What if I see some hoes outside?"

I never understood that trend of leaving the sticker on the hat...

depends on how you wear it, polo t-s can be worn anywhere. proper shirts, can also look quite casual when paired with jeans.

Thank you.

So yeah I've pretty much contined to wear them all day every day. I'm wondering though, does it kill the "nice ness" of my shirts? Like I have 3-4 killer long sleeves. If I wear them about once each every week and a half, the rest of the day my Polos, will that make the "niceness" go down of the long sleeves?

Are you serious? Either you're trolling or the drugs are going to your brain. You're thinking about it way too much. I assume when you say colared shirt you mean SHIRT and not a T-SHIRT. There cool, and not as superior to t-shirts as you're making out. I would'nt generally wear a shirt casually, playing poker and such but if I was going to a club or the pub or something. T-shirt and polos are good for casual wear around the house and just chilling out. You just need to chill out and stop thinking about it to much.

Why was this old thread bumped?
