Greetings, this is a response thread to a thread made in "I am the Law". In that thread I said that an honourable man would choose death over imprisonment. I was called a faggot because of that. I feel that suicide is misunderstood and therefor created this thread. It was difficult to find the correct section for this but I think that there is a philosophy behind it and it belongs in Humanities.
To begin I will state a reason for suicide:
A man of honour should not allow himself to get locked up. Ofcourse, if you indulge in crime you are not a man of honour. However sometimes the law contradicts a man's own set of morals and he might just ignore the law and persue his own. Defending ones family/property/honour per example. If a man does get locked up for this he should choose death over imprisonment.
Why is this? I shall give three reasons why suicide is the only option.
1. Imprisonment whilst you are just is a very agonizing experience.
2. Letting yourself being imprisoned whilst you are just means you give in to injustice
3. Commiting suicide expresses your statement in the ultimate form. You are just, they are injust, you are prepared to give your live for that.
A small scenario:
A burglar sneakes into your family' house. You opose him with a bat or a knive and kill him. The police come and arrest you. You did nothing wrong, you protected your family. You are sentenced to lets say 12 years imprisonment. In your cell you contemplate your live. You have successfully protected your family, they will live long and happy. Your job here is done. You can step towards death being content with the fact that your presence is no longer required. By taking your own live you say:
- I refuse you to punish me because I am not the one to be punished.
- You use only feeble words to make me look like a criminal but I can prove that I am more dedicated to my cause and a stronger believer in my righteousness by this action.
- If I stay alive people will think that I have accepted my punishment and that I am a criminal. Even if I get out my live if forfeit.
