Im considering taking ROTC in collage and then afterwards joining in active duty as a MP officer

You don't pick your branch if you do ROTC unless you enlist in the National Guard/Reserves first and do the SMP program. If you do that, you're guaranteed your branch from day 1.

Otherwise, during your senior year, you make a list of branches that you would like and a list of places where you would like to be stationed, and they take that into consideration, but that's about as much choice as you have in the matter. I've heard that something like 90% of cadets get one of their top 3 branch choices, though.

funny story. When I came back fro Iraq and was at fort drum the barracks I was staying in until I left were not 50 yards away. Over the course of three nights I made a huge mural on their brand new baracks.
