View Full Version : Do you modify any of your equipment?
Okay, so I just bought some new boots today. They were a cheap pair of jungle boots with the panama sole. I'm debating on cutting this thin foam on the ankle support. I belive it will get hot but I don't know. Your thoughts and what else do you modify of yours?
Edit: These boots are Rothco and they said summer boots but don't have the vents of the inside like my baites. BTW, I've already started cutting foam. I'll just write this one off as a lesson in cheap boots.

You start chopping at your boots and you might start walking with a limp.

I swapped the insole of one of my pairs of boots for the thinner version, that's as far as I went with those things.
When I still used a belt kit I used to open up the large pouches and make a small cut into the inside of the lid near one end. If you did it right you could have a little pouch to stuff your spoon/cutlery/something else small and thin. I also used some cord and zipties to tie everything together to make it bounce a little bit less.
I cut the dividers out of any magazine pouches that had them, that made them a lot easier to use.

Your question doesn't mean anything. You have to fuck with all your gear to get it to work.

this. for me and my unit, we cant really do anything aside from adjust our gear to make it fit properly. we have to have our shit exactly how they tell us. anything else is not authorized.
i still have to get my name sewn onto my MOLLE vest and cate eyes. Our gunnery seargent chewed my ass for it.

You actually use vests? We just attach our shit right to the flak.

My theory is that (with some exception, of course) in order to reenlist (in infantry MOS) you have to not really be all that mentally capable anyway. I think that degenerates comprise a good portion of senior enlisted command.

There's good and there's bad.

I was part of that in 05-06. We could have our shit however we wanted it. If you think about it, its pretty smart. One way might be easier for one person and it could make it more difficult for another.
Does anyone here in the Air Force have the mandatory ACU interceptor vest now as my base does, to complement the ABUs? If so, do you think its a good idea to just stick with the pouches that weave onto them, or to get a sage tac vest from rangerjoes?

Do you really need a tac-vest in the airforce?

Yeah, I've got that one job in the AF where hard work is actually done. Fuck, man, every single other job on this base is in an office, I swear. Aside from the engineers, Red Horse squadron, missile maintenance teams, and especially us in security forces, they all sit in cubicles all day.
I got a friend in our contracting squadron. 8 hour shifts and 2 hour lunches, sitting in an office all day, complaining to ME about staying in the office another hour when I work 15 hour straight shifts 4 days in a row.

Mad props for security forces. If you have any way of stacking shit (i've seen everything from rocks to books to a toilet) so it looks like you're standing, but you're actually sitting, do it. What do you use most of the time, SAW?
As much as you bitch about the job, it could be worse. Some SF are sent out on patrols, without even being taught the basics of patrolling.
Be thankful you get to stand in one stop for 15 hours toting a heavy weapon seeing absolutely no action. It could be worse.
