so today at the theatre, I was talking to my friend nick about government surveillance. We were in the lobby of the theatre, and these 3 kids that were are age were staring at us. later I said to nick "those kids were looking at us like we were a couple of freaks" and he said thats because we are.

so anyway, I've been thinking about this. Why can 'The man' or 'big brother' or whatever you want to call the government record us, but we can't record our friends? its illegal to record in alot of public places, like school. I could record my friends being completely innocent at school and get in trouble for us being minors and one of our parents could sue the other friends parents, even if I don't post it on the internet, yet they surveil us all the time without our permission, and our parents haven't gave the school permission to record us, and they can't sue the school.

WTF? What do you think?

New York City made it illegal. One of the biggest bullshit laws ive ever heard of.

I remember reading some places in teh UK you cant, but im not positive about that one

The surveillance cameras are for "security" purposes, and not for entertainment. People are constantly paranoid about the rising numbers of cameras on the streets and in buildings. Sure they may have someone watching live feeds of these cameras, but they cannot all be watched at the same time. If an event occurs, they then have recorded proof of the event.

Anyways, yeah, it boils down to you do not have permission to record others. Ever watch the news or a reality show and people are blurred out? As for "my parents didn't agree to the school recording... blah blah blah" They did. They either voted on it, or they signed a paper (neither of which I am sure they read up on before doing either).
