Was wondering when someone would bring this up. Not to sound like I'm buying the hype, but I really DO think this is going to be the biggest fight in UFC history. Going to be a loud night at the sports bar.

2007/08 is really GAY

His fight against Herring was impressive. Total domination.

He'll go far with some more experience. It's all about getting a big draw and he's it right now.

A challenge? Maybe, but this is purely for the money. Lesnar is getting a pay day in exchange for another beat down. Couture on the other hand, is also looking for a pay day. With its own rules for rankings, the UFC can't very well get him a shot at their 'title', so therefore this is Couture's only way to get a decent sized pay day, without having to fight a couple of fights first to get ranked for a fight at the current UFC 'champion'. People do this in boxing all the time. Retired fighters, or fighters coming off a loss or [losses, who still have a big name, fight other fighters who have a name that can be sold but who aren't necessarily important in terms of being champion, highly ranked, or even in contention for a title.

Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson would be a good example. I don't think it would happen, but the general public still believes enough in the Tyson and Holyfield myth that they many would buy a PPV of a hypothetical Holyfield-Tyson III to make it worth their while.

Or look at Oscar de la Hoya for example... not a highly ranked fighter in either the 147 lb or 154 lb weight class... nobody improves their ranking by fighting him, but everybody, even the real number one contenders and the champions around his weight want to fight him, because they can make several million dollars from fighting him since he is so popular stills.

Guys like Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto for example, make their reputation on being feared, and taking hard fights.. but if offered the opportunity to fight Oscar, they would!

Oscar's next fight is against Manny Pacquiao... who has been a champion at 112 lbs, 115 lbs, 130 lbs, and now even has a minor title at 135 lbs, is not fighting Oscar at 147 lbs!! Many is only 5'6", and will likely lose to Oscar, but he's taking the fight because he will make probably 5-8 million dollars. Sure Oscar has fought as low as 130 lbs... but that was 10 years ago, and Oscar even has trouble making 154 lbs. In fact his weight is such an issue - that he has agreed to pay a $1,000,000 fine for every POUND he comes in over the 147 lb limit. IF he comes in at 150 lbs, they'll still have the fight - but he will owe $3,000,000! Insane if you ask me...

Kimbo Slice is another example. Can't really fight a real MMA champion... but he has a fairly big name (on the MMA scale at least), so he fights guys that have NAMES but aren't even ranked in some cases. Hell he fought Ray Mercer, just because the fight could be promoted as 'former boxing heavyweight champion fights Kimbo Slice'. Of course, in reality, Ray Mercer was never a real champion, just briefly held a minor title, before losing it immediately there after. But his name was such that it could be used to sell a fight. OF course, Ray Mercer HAD been a great fighter at one point... who took a PRIME Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis 12 rounds, giving them both two of the harder fights of their careers. Though this is more of a stylistic problem as Ray Mercer was a very tough come forward fighter, who at his prime had a chin like iron, and threw lots of punches as he walked through punches aimed at HIM!
