I was wondering if it was possible to synthesize anabolic steroids from albuterol.

Studies have shown that albuterol improves strength.

Albuterol is medication commonly prescribed for athsma.

man you don't even need to do more research than looking at molecular models of albuterol and say, androstenedione to see that synthesis of the latter from the former is NOT going to be easy.

JP posted an excellent diagram in RY recently...

Try it from there; albuterol is a definite no.

...and lithium sedates the bipolar. Doesn't mean I'm going to go through the nuclear fusion required to get ethanol out of it.

Fuckin' Saved!

My chem teacher still has a gigantic poster, probably about 6ft x 6ft of literally hundreds of metabolic pathways and the reactions between them; anything from tryptophan through to serotonin to ATP production. Some day I'll borrow and scan the entire thing, its probably very out of date though.

I think I've seen that at uni! There are several of them and I was staring at them for like half an hour while my friends were laughing at me. :o It was one of the most fascinating things I had ever seen.

I'd scan it but it's too big; and no digital camera that can upload to a computer. :(

Yeah I know, it was definitely an impressive sight the one I saw! I think possibly it would have to be sacrificed; cut up into multiple pieces and stitched back together after scanning each individual piece.

Possibly I could try to photograph it, but it wouldn't be as decent quality as scanning it.

I'll see what I can do, it would be awesome to have a digital copy of that, not least for the background for my 42" monitor set up...

...That I dream about :(

Why not just fold it instead of cutting it?

Why not just fold it instead of cutting it?

I would imagine it's one of those big bastard laminated ones...

On a similar note, seeing as how we've kinda deviated this thread, does anyone know where you can get those big organic reactions "roadmap" or "atlas" - been looking for one for ages - think sigma do them but they are well more expensive than i'm willing to pay...

Actually yeah, I think I could just do that... The only problem might come just from the size of the damn thing, its pretty huge.

Fcknut, I have absolutely no idea, my chem teacher got hers from a junk shop I think.

1) Get picture/poster
2) http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Best/free-ip-poster.html get software and printer
3)????
4) Profit!

I made my periodic table like this!

My periodic table is printed on a towel from the ACS. Oh yeah.

I've seen a towel like that - lovin it !

SoH: That would be wonderful, assuming I had a suitable image of the organic reaction roadmap. Which I don't. And I have tried to find a good one...

I've only ever seen one - my friend had one which she bought through the company during her placement at Pfizer...

Otherwise i think i have another one somewhere i could scan that...let me get back at you on that as i a moving and it is a mess :

ive done albuterol both orally and IM and I must say it's pretty much useless, feels like an uncomfortable version of ephedrine with no stimulation and I actually think it made me feel weaker.

would be interesting if you could make something out of it though.

Cheers for that !

Aye - looking for something like that but a more comprehensive one. The one my mate had was two A1 size posters properly full of reaction pathways...

No problem! If you find a bigger/nicer one...hook me up ;)

well...

there's a reaction map (http://www.evilshare.com/c06eb838-d5ed-102b-bdf3-0007e90cfb90)and an article (http://www.evilshare.com/f94530ce-d5ed-102b-bdf3-0007e90cfb90) to go with it in the Journal of Chemical Education that I've had for a while - not ideal but certainly along the lines...

I found another one (http://www.evilshare.com/f94d93a4-d5ed-102b-bdf3-0007e90cfb90), which takes slightly different approach

and I just found a SourceForge project (http://sourceforge.net/projects/organicchemistr/) working on something like it... Might be quite cool to get involved, and if it still going when I'm not so off-my-nuts busy, I will !
