View Full Version : I thought that I would update anyone who remembers my small house

So, what I've done so far is I've built the floor and three walls. So all I have left is the roof and one more wall. Rejoice!

Anyways, one of the walls has a 2'x4' window for some natural light, and one of the walls has a door (Duh). I plan on making an overhang when I'm done with the interior and everything else so that I can maybe make a small porch and overhang.

The house is 2 stories, but the top story is just for storage and sleeping, it's not even close to tall enough to stand in. It's enough for a small mattress and a couple of shelves for canned and dried food.

In front of the house I'm planning on having a small lawn and a garden. The space I have for the lawn is about 15x15, but that's just an estimation.

The yellow is the garden, and the lawn and house are labeled, so if you can't figure out which one is which, I'm surprised you've read this far.

Anyways, thoughts? Comments? Insults? Suggestions?

Yes. post pics.

Do you have previous experience with this or did you build it from what you have general knowledge of.

I don't have previous experience doing houses, only sheds, so my grandfather bought me a good book on how to do these things. The things that were new to me were framing windows, doors, siding and floors.

Hold on I'll go take pictures

The other wall is outside, it's too bloody cold to go and take a picture of it right now.

The one that you can see in the last picture is the wall with the window, and behind it is the floor. The one to the right in the second picture is just a plane wall, it will be in the front of the house. The one with the window will be facing the lake that I live on.

Very cool. What is the name and author of the book that your grandfather gave you? And what kind of wood did you use?

My dad has the book right now, I'll post it tomorrow, it's to late to go get it from him.

Treated hardwood for the floor

The rest is just plain whitewood, 2.50 for a 2x4x8, so it was a great deal. I don't have any plywood yet because I don't have a vehicle that can carry it, so I'm just going to rent one once I finish the roof and all the walls.

Hahaha, no need to post crazy pics! Sorry I saw this a while back and was in a rush, I meant to respond but kinda forgot. I'm still down for a trade, still got your grinder. What's the deal with the camera right now?
