I want to check it out. From what I've read it seems very interesting. Anyone been?
For those that don't know it's a ninth-century Mahayana Buddhist monument in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia. It's crazy.

^That last one is of the many bas reliefs which depict several stories.
I know a few of you bastards are worldly.
I've actually been there but can't remember it. (was a baby at the time) I've lived the first 3 years of my life in Indonesia.
What's the point of this thread? Want some information or something? My father spent a decade there so I can answer a lot of Indonesia related questions.

Pretty much. How is the economy over there? Women? Food? Fill me in.
That's cool you've been to Borobudur though.
Enough attractive women. Economy is a piece of shit, it's not the poorest asian country but it is pretty poor. Most indonesians live in Kampongs, which are basically ghetto's.
Since tourism is a major source of income for a lot of people they are very nice to tourists, but they'll try to rip you off every chance they get.
The country is mostly muslim, I'd say about 90%. The rest are christian (Maluku islands) and hindu and buddhist (Bali). They used to be pretty lax muslims, but the last 20 years (thanks to the Saudi's) they have been radicalising. They used to be very pro-american (since the USA helped to get the Netherlands out), but I suspect that isn't the case anymore.
Indonesian cuisine is my favorite, still eat it every week. It depends from island to island though, Java's cuisine is pretty sweet (literally) and the rest are more spicey.
Anymore? :p

If there's anything you feel you left out then go for it. You answered all of my questions pretty thoroughly however. Hot poor Asian women? Count me in.
If I went, I wouldn't bring too much money so I wouldn't worry too much about being ripped off. All I'll need is food and shelter. No wants just necessities.
90% Muslims is a bit off putting but I don't really care that much. I'll try to keep my Mohammad jokes to a minimum then.
You've inspired me to eat at a local Indonesian place that I've been eyeing for awhile now. I'm gonna try to get to Borobudur as soon as I have the chance.
Thanks, FZA.

By ripped off I mean scammed. My brother went there on a big vacation last summer (visit the old family home and the people who worked for us etc.) and he got ripped off 2 times while he knew what to expect, and he speaks bahasa indonesia.
Worst one was when he was in a remote port city with absolutely no means of transportation and the only boat that went to the island he wanted to go raised the price of the trip with 400%. Because they didn't have an alternative. Shit like that is very common. Not that it's a huge amount of money or anything but being taken advantage of just sucks ass.
But it's still a beautiful country, and they have pretty cool art and shit. This is some of the hsit I have in my room, 2 indonesian woodcuts and an indonesian painting;

Holy shit. Those are fucking awesome! How much did those cost?
My father probably paid something like 50 Euros for one, or less. They are made for tourists but the bottom one is an actual temple statue, he bought a few when they got replaced. I might have a picture of other ones too, he has a shitload of art in his house.
